Would you pay for this service?

Hi,

Over the last 6 months (as part of a PHD project) I've done significant research into washing machines (technical, features and reliability).

I'm thinking about setting up a 'concierge service' which will save customers time by finding them the ideal washing machine based on their needs.

Is this a service that you would use?
Is this a service that you would pay for?

I'm looking for blunt honest answers please!

Thanks,
Notting

No. In the time I took to tell you what I needed I could have researched it myself. Washing machines are hardly complicated things to understand.

My thoughts exactly. I'd toddle off to the Library and read their latest copy with a washing machine report in.

It's a no from me. In reality, almost everyone is going to ask for the same thing:

    Good load capacity
    Good spin speed
    Reliable

...with the only variable being price bracket.

Your extensive knowledge isn't really going to be used properly because for all but very particular requirements, you will recommend the same machine in each price bracket, and that's something Which? and other online comparison tools and reviews already do.

    No.
    No.

Sites like AO already let you filter by a large number of criteria.

I suppose some people will have specialist requirements like being able to wash horse blankets or fire fighters' uniforms, but in that case you just buy a Miele and their engineer will load the appropriate programme into the machine for you.

Its a no from me too sorry.

a washing machine washes clothes,I'm not that bothered by the delicate washes etc as anything I don't trust the machine not to chew up gets done by hand.

Occasionally I do look at whether there is a drying facility connected to the machine when purchasing but other than that I usually shop online where you can compare facilities easily with other things alongside.

Although having said all that I would be interested in hearing results of reliability of the machines and whether the more you pay for one actually stacks out that its a better machine in terms of longevity.

Best of luck with your research going forward.

Absolutely not! There are plenty of free sources of information, and no doubt it would be a paid-for service... and until the consumer can see what is on offer, they don't know what they want... Almost all online stores have selection tools, and there are still strange buildings called shoppes or summat, and some are even staffed by knowledgeable people who can advise.

Blunt, honest answers requested.... Guaranteed loss-making concept!

I'm fascinated to know what kind of Ph.D. involves studying washing machines.....

    Erm no,
    Washing machine breaks
Quickly look at what you can afford
Then select from those the ones that have a decent spin speed and load capacity.
    But said washing machine.

Does anyone even look at all of the different things it can do?
Personally I only use 2 programs really the 30 and 40 degree daily wash cycle. Then the rinse hold and variable spin speed.
Its rare that I use anything else.
