The trouble is, knowing that something made 17 or 30 years ago is still working tells us nothing about how long one made today will last unless it's identical in all respects. A manufacturer who relies on his reputation for the longevity of his products to charge premium prices is less likely to cut corners or build in obsolescence though.0

Yes Dave but didn't you go round and round in circles before coming to a good decision? :rotfl:
Didn't seem much of a gamble, and when the faster, cheaper washes (at that time) were added-in it was a no-brainer.0 -
Very wise words and very true indeed! It is a common business practice is it not for one old good brand to be purchased by some outfit or other and then the name brand being used but the components being of cheap quality thus fooling the consumer.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but is this not what happened to some brands such as Bush and JVC there are quite a few more but can't think of them offhand
Yes, there are many examples of brands like that. Often the only remaining asset of a failed company is its brand which the owners or liquidators sell. The new products have nothing in common with the old ones epart from the name on the front.
Akai was a very well respected HiFi manufacturer but recently I saw that name on cheap n cheerful record players and radios.
Asda sell TVs under the Polaroid name of instant camera fame.
You can buy Kodak branded batteries but probably not photographic film.0 -

Yes, if you want advice on toasters you're better going to a retailer for whom toasters are their bread and butter.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Why do they all take three hours?
(the full load cotton wash that gets the A++++ rating)
Does it have a quicker wash options?
All the fancy eco tech in the world does not help when all people want is the wash my clothes faster option, which requires a higher temp ans more water, just like my older machine..0
