Is it worth paying for Solignum Architectural woodstain?
Hi, I just wondered if there were any experienced fence painters who could tell me if it's worth paying for Solignum Architectural woodstain :) I've got a biggish fence that needs painting - I've calculated that it's about 25 square metres in total. I want to use a coloured fence treatment and I'm trying to work out how…

Fire Regulations - Building Status
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone is in able to help in defining whether my home is subject to any sort fire regulations. I am one of four directors of a company for a Shared Freehold (collective enfranchisement). In each flat there is an owner, shareholder/director. Effectively then, these are privately owned flats. As…

Best flooring for small shared hallway
What is the best, durable, dirt-hiding, easily cleaned flooring option for a 3x1 metre shared hallway? As it's such small area, price is not such an issue. Can probably rule out ceramic tiles, but other than that, open-minded.

Wall fixings for metal shelves
Hi all, I'm looking to fit metal shelving to the walls in the under the stairs cupboard. e.g. The previous owner tried to attach some shelving straight to the plasterboard which hasn't held and the shelf needs propping up. So I need to drill through the plasterboard and into the wall behind. I'm guessing it's the grey…

Laminate Flooring 'dropped'
Hi I have laminate flooring in a ground floor flat in South London. I noticed yesterday that in one area next to the skirting board (about 2 feet long at most), the floor appears to have 'dropped' i.e. I can actually see through to the garden but this is because it has dropped where there is a ventilation brick, not…

To stabilize painted wall or not to stabilize? and how to remove existing paint
I've searched but the only thread I could find hadn't any answers. The paint on my rendered external walls continues to flake intermittently. I've tried to remove it all with a double handed scraper and power jetting, but it doesn't all come off and flakes again later on. I've painted it twice, over the years, using a good…

Appliance trolley- good idea?
I'm planning a utility room and thinking about putting washing machine and dryer on trolleys so they can be pulled out more easily for repairs etc. I don't want to use them if it's going to turn out to be a bad idea, because then the worktop will be the wrong height. If it works it could save a lot of hassle. Anyone done…

Liability of new kitchen supplier
Dear All, I recently had a new kitchen installed but I am not happy with the hood that was fitted (used to extract the smoke and steam from the cooker). Oven intermittently tripping the power.. when it's turned OFF
I've seen lots of advice for people with ovens tripping the fuse when turned on, but I've got a bizzare situation where turning the oven off intermittently trips the power. Usually more likely to occur if the oven has been on for longer. Any ideas before I get a sparky in?

Unused hot water outlet for washing machine
I'm going to be getting a new washing machine soon. My current one has both hot and cold water inlets, but all the new ones I've seen only have a cold water inlet. What do I do with the unused hot water pipe? It has a small 1/4-turn tap, so I can turn off the water. But it's directly behind the washing machine, so I won't…

Low water pressure
I live in a rural area in a small group of properties and we all have problems with water pressure though it seems some are worse affected than others. The pressure in my property at best is low but if I try to fill a kettle when, say, next door is having a shower, the tap water slows to a trickle. I understand this is a…
