Appliance trolley- good idea?

I'm planning a utility room and thinking about putting washing machine and dryer on trolleys so they can be pulled out more easily for repairs etc. I don't want to use them if it's going to turn out to be a bad idea, because then the worktop will be the wrong height. If it works it could save a lot of hassle. Anyone done this? Is it a good idea?

Experiences one can read on Amazon suggest that permanently siting a washing machine on one of these, leads to it developing a desire to travel.
I'd have thought this fairly obvious, but there may be others with a positive experience to report.
I've always arranged to have a solid floor under our washing machine. Even with a posh one, there can be some vibration.0 -
Washing machines and Tumble dryers are at the wrong height anyway.
The only reason they are built like this is in the UK we stick them in kitchens/utilities under counter tops.
If you have the space/money get them raised on plinths/Pedestal optionally with storage underneath.
less bending optional pull out shelf for a basket at the right height
To access plumbing don't put it behind the machine put it to the side the inlet and outlet hose will go that far.0 -
If you put the washing machine on a plinth and there is a leak or you just want to move somewhere else while decorating it'll be a lot harder if it's not on the floor or a trolley.0

That was my first thought too. I don't see the difficulty in bending down to use it anyway. So many people look for every opportunity to avoid movement in their daily lives, then spend money on gym memberships so they can move more...:rotfl:0 -
We had our washing machine on a nasty old bit of ply for years because it helped distribute the weight over our kitchen floorboards, but when it died and we got a new machine and I thought I’d do a better job of it.
I looked at sitting it on something else that would let me get it in and out easily and after a ton of research; I opted for putting a long worktop on the floor. It runs along the wall that has the Freezer, the bins and the washing machine on it.
Advantages are, now it sits on something wipe clean that has a lot of mass (helps ant- vibration). It was the thinnest worktop I could find 246 x 2.8 cm from a certain Swedish furniture place and for £35…
The trick is that it will slide out easily on the laminate top and if you spray the space it sits on with some Mr Sheen or whatever, it will slide back in equally well. Not orthodox I know but it works well for me and the washing machine doesn’t seem to walk either.0 -
How often do you really have to pull a washing machine out? I've never had a problem sitting machines on a decent floor surface.0
