Extending Wires

HI,

Looking for some advice about extending wires. We have Sonos speakers mounted high on the wall and I want to run the wires through D Line Decorative Trunking 16x8mm. The issue is that the wires aren't long enough to reach the socket so need to be extended, but the trunking is fairly tight so I can;t use big blocks.

I know twisting and taping isn't recommended but would it be ok given the wires are in the trunking? If not, are there any alternatives people can recommend?

Thank you!

Rich

Is it just speaker wire? If so joining the cables together and putting heat shrink on works fine.

Don't be an idiot for god sake, don't twist wires together when there are 100's of better ways to do it cheaply.

If you don't have space, use butt splice crimps. Perhaps with heatshrink over the top OR self amalgamating rubber tape (a new favourite of mine).

I don't what fool came up with twisting wires together and then putting tape around them, but what happens is the tape eventually perishes and the wires short together.
On speakers that means a blown amplifier, on mains that could mean a house fire.
