New Hall Floor in Victorian house
I am planning to renovate my hall, currently carpeted. The underlying floor is stained pine (the original floor) but it would be a major job to sand it as there are many gaps. I am currently struggling with a moth infestation and do not want more carpet. So have been thinking of wood or tiling. Wickes do a very nice mock…

painting a room
I look for a really good idiot's guide to painting. I have never painted a room before, I know silly, and now would like to paint my dining and living room including ceiling roses, coving and skirting. The idea is to paint a smallish bedroom first as a practice run. Unfortunately I have no clue what I need to do and what…

Moths in old sofa - throw out or reupholster?
We have a small Victorian chesterfield sofa in our front room - horse hair filling and all. It was last upholstered around 10 years ago - in a dark brown velvet corduroy and looked very nice and it is still very comfortable. HOWEVER we have got moths in our front room carpet and are about to throw it out. The moths are…
Destroying old bank statements
Anyone have a good way of getting rid of old bank statements, credit card statements etc? I have a pile a couple of inches thick that will take ages putting through the shredder, and I don't want to just put them in the bin... no option to have a bonfire either.
Kitchen unit and worktop advice please?
Hello, I've had a search of previous threads but most of the relevant ones were 2-3 years old so I'm hoping people have some more current advice. My questions are two-fold: 1. BA kitchens (Wilton doors) vs LochAnna kitchens (clarkwell, grained or opaco doors). Not expecting actual direct comparisons but any experience/…
cheapest place to buy electric sockets/switches
I am renovating the whole house and looking to buy a bulk of sockets and switches. Although I dont want the white basic ones I am not looking to spend money on designer ones. I have been waiting for Screwfix sale (As I have seen them selling the packs of 5 sockets at a discount) but no sign of it yet. Any recommendations…
