New Hall Floor in Victorian house

I am planning to renovate my hall, currently carpeted. The underlying floor is stained pine (the original floor) but it would be a major job to sand it as there are many gaps. I am currently struggling with a moth infestation and do not want more carpet. So have been thinking of wood or tiling. Wickes do a very nice mock Victorian floor tile or I could have wood flooring laid on top of current wood.
Any pros and cons? Also do I really need to have the skirting boards off? Mine are the original very tall moulded Wooden ones and could not be replaced. I want to keep as much of the Late Victorian character of the house as possible.

If you are confident you won't ever want to go back to carpet again, you can cut the bottom of the skirting boards off in situ with a multi-cutter, then put the wood flooring into the gap.

Also search for undercut saw or jamb saw.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
If it's only the moth you're worried about, just don't get another wool carpet. You don't have to forgo carpet altogether.littlerock wrote: »I am currently struggling with a moth infestation and do not want more carpet.0
