New Hall Floor in Victorian house

I am planning to renovate my hall, currently carpeted. The underlying floor is stained pine (the original floor) but it would be a major job to sand it as there are many gaps. I am currently struggling with a moth infestation and do not want more carpet. So have been thinking of wood or tiling. Wickes do a very nice mock Victorian floor tile or I could have wood flooring laid on top of current wood.

Any pros and cons? Also do I really need to have the skirting boards off? Mine are the original very tall moulded Wooden ones and could not be replaced. I want to keep as much of the Late Victorian character of the house as possible.
