Wierd spots appearing on my walls
Hi there Over the past month some weird spots have appeared on a couple of the walls in my bedroom. Image on the following link (it's not related to the pealing paint (although any ideas on what's caused that would be great too!) ht tp: //i.imgur.com/cjr7Hmv.jpg It's appeared on inside walls. The only change recently is…

PVC corrugated roofing
Hi I'm just about to replace the plastic roofing that covers the path on the side of my house. The length of each sheet will need to be cut to size as its quiet a small area. I've never done this before. Does anyone know the best way to cut the plastic corrugated sheets? Also I already have a frame so I presume its as…

Hi all we were recently burgled, they took over £10000 of jewellery and £4500 of tech items, consoles, games laptops etc, we rang the home insurance to put a claim in only to be told by Royal Sun Alliance, the underwriters that my jewellery was not covered under high risk which payed out up to £7500 but comes under…

Build over agreement
HiHoping for some advice. We built a conservatory on the back of the house in 2013 and did not get building control in, (yep I know this was an error, we didn't think we needed it for a conservatory and builder didn't tell us we did). We also didn't get a build over agreement from Thames Water again an error on our part…

DIY Plastering Courses?
Hi folks So me and my partner are (fingers crossed) about to exchange on our home soon. The house dates to around 1905 and the homebuyers survey has flagged up that most of the walls are likely to be original lath and plaster (probably horsehair). Now we are on a fairly tight budget regarding redecoration so we are…

Macerator for Washing Macine
The macerator that we have in the cellar for the washing machine is making a grinding noise. I suspect it is due to something blocking it. Can anyone recommend a new macerator for us? Should we necessarily go for a Saniflo?

Joining house problems...
Hi Guys, So I bought a house 2 and a half years ago, and the neighbour hasn't always been the tidiest but it's now got to a point where the garden is so overgrown that a greenhouse that's down the back of their garden is completely over grown. She lets her dogs out into the garden and let them fowl everywhere and doesn't…

Water leak liability
Hi everyone, I've recently bought a leasehold flat and after having an offer accepted, we never went back to see it. Foolish now in hindsight! Got the keys and there has been a water leak for some time. I've set about sorting it myself and arranging tradesmen to fix the issue quickly. The trouble is the building management…

Can any vented tumble dryer be used with this vent?
I recently moved into a house which has a Zanussi ZD100 vented tumble dryer installed. I am hoping to replace it with a Hotpoint Aquarius TVFS73BGP. Would anyone be kind enough to look at the pictures and see if the vent would be suitable? (Excuse the mess ;) )…

Replace Locks with Self Locking Locks?
I know this may sound like a silly question but we have a UPVC door with a lock that just locks with the key. Our rear door is also UPVC but has a handle that if you life it up, you can't open the door from outside without the key. Is this an easy change? Expensive? Any pointers on what I need to buy? Thanks 🙂

New oven - recommendations?
Am never sure where to post a request for recommendations regarding replacing household items! Has anyone bought an electric oven in the last three years or so which they are happy with? I would be particularly interested to hear from anyone who is a 'high use' person - an avid baker or suchlike - who can testify to…

flooring options
Hi all, Without wanting to bombard the forum, I do have another question I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with. We've just moved in to our house and the previous owners took up the carpets and stripped the floorboards. They've not done the best job and haven't sanded it all well/at all in places and there's a…

New washing machine and fridge freezer - recommendations?
Hi all, Having finally completed on our first house we're now looking to replace the (gross!) washing machine that was left behind and to get a new fridge freezer. Having looked on the usual sites I'm getting a bit blurry eyed with all the choice! Does anyone have any recommendations for brands, models or even where to buy…

Frost Free Fridge Freezer
OUr old frost free fridge freezer died - boo hoo - had 8 years good service. So we looked online and got a new one. Now its installed I have noticed at the back wall of the fridge it looks like droplets of water - is this common. I have looked at fridges at work and they have it too. I have set the temp to the default of…

Fireplace for conservatory- gas v electric
We have a north facing conservatory which was heated by a balanced flue hang on the wall heater (1980s style, brown and not very nice to look at), which is now dead. We looked at replacing it with another but styles go from exactly the same (awful but £200ish) to beautiful (but £1500). We could have a flueless but need an…

Garage flooded - electric lawnmower
Hi all, We went away for the week and our garage flooded due to a storm. When we came back the garage has drained and was mostly dry, just dirty water marks and soggy bits of cardboard as evidence of the flood. The electric lawnmower was the only electric thing in reach (on the floor), and I turned it upside down and a lot…

Boiler has broken. What's the best way forward?
Hi guys, I have a Potterton Performa 24 HE Eco and I keep getting a Flame failure. We started getting this a few weeks ago and simply turning it off and on again worked but now it's not working at all and we have gone 2 days without hot water. I have searched Google and haven't found any fixes that I can carry out myself.…
