PVC corrugated roofing

Options
Hi

I'm just about to replace the plastic roofing that covers the path on the side of my house.
The length of each sheet will need to be cut to size as its quiet a small area.

I've never done this before. Does anyone know the best way to cut the plastic corrugated sheets?
Also I already have a frame so I presume its as simple of putting screws through the plastic in to the wood?

Just a bit worried it will crack and split.

Any tips would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Mark

When I had this with a shed, I put all of the sheets together (they needed to be the same length), taped them together just before the cut, and used a hacksaw.
  • I've done this in the past, I just used a hacksaw to cut the sheets, though you may be able to use strong scissors or tin-snips.

To screw the sheets down, you need to drill a small pilot hole first to prevent them cracking, and use screws with washers - something along these lines : http://www.screwfix.com/p/hardened-steel-roofing-screws-8-x-60mm-20-pack/50983
  • Thanks it sounds like a hack saw will do the job. I will also drill a pilot hole first before screwing.
  • I've just ordered a saw from Amazon (I can't post the url) I went for:
Stanley 217206 300mm/ 12-inch FatMax PVC and Plastic Saw

Hopefully that should help me cut the sheets

    Is that foreplay?

Remember to drill the holes at the top of a ridge and not in the channels where the water will run.

    Haha :rotfl:

Cheers for the advice on drilling the holes, I probably would of drilled the channels
  • Just a quick update. Hopefully others may be able to benefit from what I found.

Cutting the plastic was very easy. At first I used masking tape and a hack saw, this worked but took a while. So I experimented using my multi-tool that has a wood cutter on it. This cut through it without any issues.

With the screws I pre drilled the holes and made sure that the holes were slightly bigger than the screw to allow the plastic to expand.
Also another tip is to turn the plastic over so the bit you are drilling is directly on the floor.
Finally make sure the holes are at the top and not in the channel.

I cut 8 sheets and fitted them all without any issues.

Thanks for the advice from this forum
