Water leak liability

Hi everyone,
I've recently bought a leasehold flat and after having an offer accepted, we never went back to see it. Foolish now in hindsight!
Got the keys and there has been a water leak for some time. I've set about sorting it myself and arranging tradesmen to fix the issue quickly. The trouble is the building management want to make a claim as it affected 4 other flats and want me to pay the £500 excess. I'm not too keen as I don't know what of the money i've already spent i'll be able to recover.
Where does the liability lie for a leak that happened before I bought it in relation to neighbouring properties?
Your wisdom would be appreciated!

If you repaired a leak as soon as you were informed then that's as far as your responsibility goes & the flats that have been effected need to claim off of their own insurance, the management co block insurance rarely covers individual flats even though you pay for it through your monthly chargeI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
