Wierd spots appearing on my walls

Hi there

Over the past month some weird spots have appeared on a couple of the walls in my bedroom.

Image on the following link (it's not related to the pealing paint (although any ideas on what's caused that would be great too!)

It's appeared on inside walls. The only change recently is that we've started using the ensuite shower a lot more than we ever did in the past , although we do open the bathroom window and keep the door shut (as much as we can). It doesn't look like mould and doesn't come off if I wipe it which i'd expect it to... any ideas?

What kind of tradesmen would be my next port of call (after you fine people).

Thanks

I'd say it's almost definitely dampness causing both the spots and the peeling paint.

Probably due to steam/condensation, but there could be another cause. What's on the other side of the wall? Or above?

Looks similar to a damp wall I had for a few years while the freeholder investigated. Turned out to be a tiny leak from bath in the flat above.

    damp.
where in the ensuite bathroom does that wall adjoin?

  • that wall of the pic is opposite the bathroom, but actually behind that wall is a shower.

The other place these spots have appeared is behind the wall next to the door into the bathroom (behind which is actually the other shower.

Would dampness cause spots like that then? as opposed to mould?

    What's the fix then?

The fix is to get a plumber and say you suspect you have issues with damp and query a leak somewhere or if they think condensation could have caused it. Is the wall soft to touch?
  • The cracking looks like a crack in the wall -- subsidence? -- possibly allowing moisture through

Peeling paint on an internal wall is a sign of subsidence now?

    Er, really, no.

It is categorically not subsidence. That's the most stupid thing I've read on here in a while.

I can't quite make out what the item of furniture is that's in front of the potentially damp section but if you have furniture jammed right up against the wall it can reduce air circulation and this can lead to damp or mouldy patches.
