Is Fernox treatment worth it?
Having a few issues with radiators not heating up, low pressure etc in an old house we moved into, is it worth but 2 or 3 Fernox treatments and trying them first? Was thinking of the F3 cleaner and then after a week the F1 protect and F4 leak sealer?

Question Regarding Title Deeds
Hi, I am looking to have my garage converted into a dining room, and the builder has stated that I would need to check the deeds, as there may be a restrictive covenant in place. I have looked at the title deeds provided to me from when I purchased the property, and these were dated October 1986. (I purchased in 2013)…

JML Dri-Buddy hangers
Does anyone have a JML dri buddy? what hangers do you use with it? I have one but am struggling to get the most out of it as I find the wires that hold up the parts you hang the clothes on get in the way, as the hangers do not fit (the top part of the hanger is too short). It means I can only hang two items per branch.…

Secondary glazing

We want to get a secondary glazing window to install within the existing window recess to reduce noise penetration from outside. I found…

Does anyone else use British Gas Homecare?
Wondering whether this is really worth it. My dad has it and says it is great - even though it costs him £600 a year. Also not sure whether to just go for plumbing or for the whole shebang and get electrics and your appliances etc?

Dropped Kerb birmingham
Hi All, Just brought a new house and looking at getting a driveway done, ive read up on kerbs and seems you have to apply to the council for one, but no where does it mention the price! Anyone had one recently with birmingham can help out? Also there is a tree on one side in front of the house, only tiny and relatively…

kitchen discounts (Howdens)
Hi all, I have seen the kitchen quote sent by Howdens to my builder. One item is a Neff gas hob which is listed as £250 after a 75% discount - so the regular / original price must be £1000. I don't know the Neff model yet but I think the normal price for a gas hob is £100 - £300 not £1000. Another item on the list is a…

Eggy smell
Hi, For ages now we have been getting eggy wafts in the kitchen when we: 1. Use the upstairs bathroom sink. 2. Drain the washing machine. It doesn't appear to be coming from anywhere else. We have had the drains looked at (no blockage- £100 down the drain), used bleach, used caustic soda, tried the washing machine on…

Gas engineer needed to move pipe in kitchen - Birmingham
We are knocking down our wall between kitchen and dining room so need to relocate the gas for the hob. I have tried advertising on Myhammer and Mybuilder for someone to do this but no luck! Had two people come out to quote and so far haven't actually quoted or replied to messages. Does anyone know a registered Gas Safe…

Ceiling leak repair
Hi We have developed a leak from the kitchen ceiling which seems to be from the central heating, as it only occurs when introducing water into the system, and then the leak stops when the pressure goes down. To me it seems quite clear where the leak is from, which is above a wooden/plastered ceiling with spotlights, I can…

Chimney !
Having a wood burner installed in our house and we had to have chimney swept. Previously we had a gas fire installed about 15 years ago and the gas fitter arranged a chimney sweep then but now I'm not so sure he did! When they looked up the chimney they could see it was blocked. Aside from compacted birds nests, dead birds…

Plumbing help required (leaking flush pipe).
Me and my mate ( a plumber) did a bathroom re-fit a few weeks back for my niece. I don't normally do bathrooms but she wanted it all paneling out with bead and butt boarding and new flooring/skirtings etc, with Victorian roll top bath and high level cistern with chrome flush pipe. After much toil and sweat, working in a…

Shower suitable for Combi Boiler
If getting a wall mounted shower which would drain down into the bath, is there a certain category of shower I should look for if the water is heated by mains gas? It uses a combi boiler. Or a certain category which is incompatible with mains gas supply? For example, I've heard that a power shower is not possible with…

Cheapest Way to Replace Kitchen?
Hi all, I've read another post on here about Kitchens but mine is a bit different. My kitchen is falling apart, not only is it from the 80's/early 90's with pink and beige tiles but these tiles keep launching themselves off the walls. So my kitchen walls are now 70% grey plaster with tile adhesive splodges. The units are…

Mystery Sky Cable? (Image)
Dear all, hope you're well! I am looking to get Sky+ in a new apartment (approx 8 years newly built) and whilst there's one satellite cable socket in the wall (communal sky dish), I was wondering how Sky+ would work (given that it needs 2 LNB cables). So I unscrewed the faceplate next to the existing sky cable and found…

drywall / plasterboard primer - do I need it?
Hello, We did a garage conversion and used plasterboard all the way through. Not enough money to have it plastered so we only used tape on the joints then easyfill as well as on the screws. Do I need to prime it before I'll paint it over? I did some research and it's recommended to do so. I struggle to find the primer…
