Dropped Kerb birmingham

Hi All,
Just brought a new house and looking at getting a driveway done, ive read up on kerbs and seems you have to apply to the council for one, but no where does it mention the price!
Anyone had one recently with birmingham can help out?
Also there is a tree on one side in front of the house, only tiny and relatively new, as it's
right on the one side im guessing they can just put the kerb the other side of the driveway?
Last one, do you need to get the driveway built before you apply for the kerb or can that be done after the kerb is all done?
thanks in advance

Look on your LA's website, the info should be under Highways or similar-just search 'dropped kerb' on their site.
You may need planing permission for the driveway. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Follow this link and click on the "How much does it cost tab" and then, for info on the tree, click on the "Detailed requirements" tab.

You may also need planning permission depending on the drive surface you use.
I'd sort the pp and dropped kerb issues before you spend money on the drive itself.0 -
Sister had it done last week, cost £800. We live in Lincolnshire but it should give a rough idea.
Only council approved contractors can do them, so you have to go through the council, at least that is the case here. Me and my mate could have probably done it cheaper but not allowed.0 -
thanks, £800 seems pretty cheap compared to some of the things ive read,
Birmingham council dont actually list even remote hint of price on the website, just £77 inspection fee.0 -
It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember them wanting to charge £1100 or £1400 around 11 years ago in Harborne.
They made it read as if they had to carry out the work as well, but they didn't.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Just goes to show how price varies across the country. I thought it was quite expensive for the work involved. Took 2 men a morning to do. Two angled kerb edgings and 3 flat sections with a bit of digging out and asphalting to form a slope. This was what the council told my sister the price was for but upon asking the chaps nicely, they put in four flat sections and made it a bit wider at no extra cost. Amazing what you can get with a smile and tea and biscuits.0
