Best boiler cover

Looking to take out cover for my old Potterton boiler and hopefully a free service thrown in, is there a better/preferred supplier of the service?
Basically I'm after the boiler being serviced before it gets too cold, and also peace of mind as its about 12 years old

Best of luck most won't let you take out cover for a boiler that oldI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Hi
Yes I thought that too, but BritishGas Homecare I couldnt find anything on the terms and conditions about the age of it. I did read they come and inspect it and if they do not cover it for any reason you obviously dont pay. Hoping for a visit soon and go from there.
We are refitting the kitchen and a lot of the pipes next year so it will be being replaced anyway then, just hoping for it to last til next summer0 -
British Gas terminated the service contract on our boiler back in 2000 due to its age. It was 27 years old then.0

Thanks Gloomanddoom, was it down to the age, or the type of boiler do you know?? My parents oid back boiler behind the fireplace packed up 15 or so years ago and they replaced it with a normal boiler as back then i think it was the way forward. Am hoping my 12 year old wall mounted boiler can still be covered though, even for just a year...0 -

They said it was down to its age. I suspect that they were worried that spare parts would become unavailable. There was nothing wrong with it at the time.
They actually did me a favour as it's now 42 years old and the only parts it's needed since the termination of the contract have been a gas cõck and a pilot thermocouple... both still available.
I'm not sure how durable your particular boiler is reputed to be but it might be worth just using a local indy for services and repairs if and when needed.0 -
I have checked British Gas HomecareOne, they will not replace a boiler more than 7 years old. Homeservce have £200 excess replacements.Buy for value not cost.
Feb Grocery = £55.87 / 800 -

If you're replacing it next year and it's working now I wouldn't bother. Even if they do cover it the premium is going to be high. To be honest if you are concerned about the safety of the thing, get a GSC done on it.
Anything that is likely to go wrong between now and then will either be enough to condemn it or cheap enough to be less than the cover.0 -
For boilers over a certain age (7 years? 10 years?), BG say they will repair on a best effort basis, depending on availability of parts. They will not replace the boiler if they cannot repair it in that instance.0
