Old boiler stopped working

Our boiler has stopped working this morning, no power to it. The fused spur beside it is fine I have checked the 13A fuse, all OK. Any other ideas please before I call an expert in? The boiler details are:
Potterton Profile 60eL
It was probably fitted when the extension was done by previous owners about 12 years ago. We have a water tank in the loft and copper cylinder in the airirng cupboard if that helps
Thanks in advance

How do you know there is no power to the boiler, an indicator light possibly? When checking for lack of power issues, you start at one end and work to the other end. You state that the fused spur beside it is fine - what does this mean? Is there power going into and out of the fused spur? If so, the fault lies in the boiler, maybe an internal fuse. If not, you need to check back to what feeds the fused spur, which I would suggest would be your distribution board.0

Check if the overheat thermostat has tripped. At the bottom of the controls cover is a small round hole, the overheat reset button is up & inside. If it has tripped as you push it up it will click & reset. Obviously there may be underlying reasons why it may have tripped out, seizure pump etc.
Also, the boiler should have a 3a fuse, not 13a0 -
Thanks people
Dan23uk, the button under the boiler did need pressing again, and it fired up and you could see the light inside again and it started heating water. Got home 8 hours later and it was off again, so pressed it again. Woke up this morning, and it was off again. Theres clearly a fault, and have arranged for a service contract (they come out to view the boiler before taking your money each month)
Any ideas what it could be? Just so I'm armed with a bit more info that my current 'it doesnt work?'
Thanks again guys0 -
The boiler is overheating. It could be that the pump has seized or is running slow. The F&E tank may be empty: if you bleed the rads upstairs does water come out?
Othwerwise there may be a restriction in System caused by sludge, given the age of the boiler.
Have you told BG that the boiler/system is faulty and paid for a repair (usually £99 one off fee if you are also taking a service contract out)?
If not the engineer will only be checking to see if the boiler/system is suitable for contract, any pre existing faults that have not been mentioned when booking the appointment are not covered and the engineer will only quote to repair.
Hope that helps

Thanks again Dan
I've bled the rads upstairs and just dirty water comes out of them, also tried closing off the ones that do get hot, and fully opening those that are cold (read it online). Also bled a tiny bit of air from the pump next to the hot water cylinder in airing cupboard, turned the front screw and released a bit of air, then hot steam
Sorry, whats the F&E tank?
Also i havent told BG about the fault, was just kind of hoping they'd 'stumble across' whatevers up0 -

Can you try and find an independent rather than use BG? They will probably tell you that the boiler is too old, they can't get parts and what have you and will likely just try to sell you a new one. (I have an older version of your boiler, which is about 25 years old, there's no way I'd let anyone from BG anywhere near)Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Thanks again everyone. Further investigation by myself the central heating pump itself is red hot to touch, as is the pipe feeding it from above, but the pipe coming out of the bottom of the pump is stone cold. Does this mean the pump is either knackered or blocked, and needs replacing?0
