Ceiling mounted bay window curtain poles
The master bedroom in our new house has a bay window that goes right to the top of the wall. We don't want to drill into the (UPVC) frame (and may change the windows anyway) and it already has a baton fixed onto the ceiling so we wanted to make the most of this and get a ceiling mounted pole. However I can't seem to find…

Grill cover in kitchen floor, what is it for?
We have bought a house, that has a 6 inch square grill in one corner of the kitchen floor, that looks a bit like a drain cover. The house was built around 1930, and the square grill is in front of where the fireplace (now boarded up) was in the kitchen. Has anyone any ideas as to what this is for? Thanks

Flue Dilemma
My chimney has no chimney; it has a gas flue liner but no closure plate/register plate (I don't know what it is called), which led to the Gas Safe engineer condemning the chimney. As a result I haven't had a fire for the past couple of years. I decided to bite the bullet this year and get it fixed but I am so confused I…

Which trade for this job?
I have a small built on rear porch area with a glass roof. One of the glass panels has slipped down a few inches so the rain running off it is missing the gutter and landing on step of the wooden frame, rotting it. It needs the leading lifted, the glass pushing back up and the leading re-done. My usual no job too small…

Newbie to using a woodburner
We've moved home and our new place has a woodburner. However, we have no idea whatsoever as to how to use it. What tools do we need? We don't want to go and buy stuff we won't end up using. We did get the chimney swept when we moved in. The previous owners have kindly left us some logs outside (in a dry place) and a…

Is zinc plating better than a lacquered finish for gate furniture?
Have bought a tall, wooden garden gate and am now wondering whether to buy the 'metal bits' (black lacquered) from the same supplier at well over £20. I can see offers on the net of the same 'gate furniture pack', only zinc plated, for a considerable saving. Any advice please?
