From loft to bedroom! Building reg??
Hi guys, I have a proper staircase going to the second floor of my house with a big room upstairs. It is considered as a loft but you can easily stand in it, it's got a radiator and a window. What would I need to do for it to have a "bedroom" status. I checked on my local council website (wirral) and I can't find anything…

Fridge intermittent fault dilemma!
Half an hour ago, I opened my fridge to find the light not working and it not feeling properly cold. I opened and closed the door several times and the light didn't come on. I'd just found a number to call for fridge repairs when I checked the fridge again and the light was on and it seemed colder. I explained this to the…

Door handle advice please
We have a reasonably old front door. It is double glazed, but not a upvc like the new ones are. The handle seems a bit rubbish on the outside and think it will probably fail before long. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a replacement? The ones of seen on various websites are really narrow (for the new style doors) My…

Vacuum storage Bags
I would like to buy some of these bags to pack stuff for to go in my suitcases to take abroad with me. I know the clothes flatten in these bags, but have measured the inside of the suitcase and the large bags are too big to fit in my suitcase, so what I am asking is can the bags be folded over to fit in my case once the…

Dri Buddi
Have just had an email that these are on offer at the moment but wondered if anyone else has one? http://www.jmldirect.com/page/home. I've read reviews but they don't really answer my questions. Where does the water from the drying clothes go? Is there some sort of reservoir that needs emptying? If so that's fine, but if…

Timber windows - cost?
Hi there, We've seen a house we're interested in buying... The windows are in a bit of a state and would need replacing. We prefer timber to uPVC so I was wondering if anyone had any idea (really rough would do) at all of what we might be looking at in terms of cost? It's a 3 bed mid-terrace, so is 'only' the front and…

You might think this is an odd question - bear with me I am new to this painting malarky:D I will soon have my own home and know that various rooms need redecoration - the kitchen has anaglypta wallpaper on one wall which has been painted a horrible maroon colour (it makes the kitchen too dark). I had thought of removing…

Dyson...funny noise and burning smell!!
As I was using my Dyson (07 origin) the other day it suddenly started making a very strange noise...very strained sounding and then there was a strong electrical burning smell. Obvious plumbing question...
... do all plumbers need to be gas safe registered to do any work on a combi boiler? I'm assuming they do, but are there any circumstances where they wouldn't have to be, e.g. replacing a section not directly concerning the gas, or working with someone else remotely? Sounds naive I know!
