Timber windows - cost?

Hi there,

We've seen a house we're interested in buying... The windows are in a bit of a state and would need replacing. We prefer timber to uPVC so I was wondering if anyone had any idea (really rough would do) at all of what we might be looking at in terms of cost?

It's a 3 bed mid-terrace, so is 'only' the front and back of the house... Sorry if this is a bit vague!

Who would you recommend I contact for a quote? Would Anglian or everest do? Or should I try a local independent?

We bought timber casement windows and they were about 3 times the cost of UPVC. That was from a small independent company which had them made bespoke as I didn't want the detailing that is common in windows at the moment.

These look really good. Do the wooden sashs run on sliders? i.e no rope? Looks like they would fit properly and leave far less of an air gap than normal wooden sashs.

Went down and watched them build the windows. Awesome quality, not very budget though.

We have just had 26 wooden windows plus a double door for £6-£8k (ex VAT) (I can't rember exactly). Single pane fully reversible.

The point being is we used a small family joinery business Skotland Joinery who will have minimal overheads compared to the sals driven big boys. So I would reccommend you find a similar company near you.
