Vacuum storage Bags

I would like to buy some of these bags to pack stuff for to go in my suitcases to take abroad with me.
I know the clothes flatten in these bags, but have measured the inside of the suitcase and the large bags are too big to fit in my suitcase, so what I am asking is can the bags be folded over to fit in my case once the flattened clothes are in there, or can I place the clothes in the bags in such a way but still fold part of the bag to fit in my suitcase, or can it only be flattened/ air removed the whole size of the bag.

Sorry if this doesnt make a lot of sense, but I am finding it difficult to explain it.:o

I have some friends who tried using the vacuum bags and they are hard to fold/mould once the air has sucked out as they become pretty rigid.

It's also hard to get them to form into the shape you want while the air is being sucked out...

Buy smaller vacuum bags - they come in a range of sizes. You can't fold them once the air is out as they become solid.

Thankyou folks, i guess what I was hoping to hear was that I could use the large bags, and instead of packing the large bag the whole length, I could pack the clothes in it stacked into 2 piles, then fold bag a bit before I sucked the air out, but that wouldnt work....
  • Hi all,

I'm after some of these too. Does anyone know the best place to go to get cheap (and good quality) ones?

Argos do them, but they normally do mixed sizes, if you go to ebay and look up vacuum storage bags loads will come up, you can either by mixed or single sizes and much cheaper than Argos, the odd one does free postage.

Place the clothes in the bag, place the bag into the suitcase and then remove the air. The bag should then be the same shape as the suitcase.

I have just recently bought some from costco.... think you get 14 bags (various sizes), cost was around £14 incl vat. They seem very good quality compared to the cheapo ones i have seen in B & M.

I got some suitcase size ones from Lakeland plastics.

You don't need a vacuum to use them, just zip them up and roll them to expell the air.

They are very good quality. Put it this way, we took away our own pillows from 2 double beds ( 4 pillows) and all our clothing. I came back with 16 cartons of cigs, all my clothes and toiletries and the 2 pillows in my 30'' case and was still not overweight on lugage.

I bought some a few years ago to bring some bedding back from Portugal, whilst I rented a friends house there. I ended up buying a cheap cylinder hoover from the local carrefour supermarket there to be able to use them. His wife was made up as she could hoover everywhere as left the hoover there !
