moving indoor tv aerial socket

Not sure if this is the right place to post but I need some help.

My TV aerial socket is in the wrong corner of my room and I would like it moved. I do not know if this is possible or if it would be expensive to do.

I did buy extension cables but the conduits I got to hide the wires does not fit in a tidy way.

Can anyone offer me any advice please. I would be very grateful.

  • Knowing where the TV point is in relation to the Aerial would help. Plus your building layout, floor (solid or floorboarded), the walls (plasterboard or plaster/brick) before being able to recommend anything. Is it just for now that you want it moved? Are you ever likely to want it back how it is?

If there are floorboards, then putting an extension underneath them might work. If you need a new down lead then it will be a lot of work, cutting out the wall, filling it in afterwards and making good. Quite a big job overall, especially if there are bedrooms upstairs.

You could get or you might have a loftbox with multiple outputs. Having two go to the room in question could be done but might require cutting channels in the walls unless there is already a suitable channel that could be used, which is unlikely.

It could be done DIY, it's certainly possible for an experienced DIYer. I have fitted two TV aerials and two TV aerial points in my lounge and intend adding points to the bedrooms in future.

There is an alternative. If you use a Freeview box, then leave it where it is, and use an AV sender to transmit the signal to a receiver where you want the TV to go. Otherwise it is a bit of a pain as the previous post indicates.

Thank you both for your replies.

It sounds as if it requires a professional :)

It is a new build flat and I know I have not got the ability to do this type of work. :(

As for the AV system it does not work as it affects the tvs in the bedroom.

    Thanks again

If it's a flat then it's a whole different kettle of fish. The TV Aerial system is likely to be shared amongst the flats and I don't think you could do the job without permission from the owner or other flat owners and where ever the Aerial is located which could be the top of the building. Being a flat means getting the cable from the Aerial to a new location is very difficult and could affect other flat owners.

The simple solution is probably similar to what you have already tried so it might be worth you brainstorming for ideas on how you can do it more neatly. Possibly laying it under the edge of the carpet providing there are no grippers to damage the Aerial Coaxial cable. Fitting a fixing into the wall to stop the cable getting pulled and pulling up the cable under the carpet. This would be considerably cheaper than paying someone and incurring all the inconvenience that would go along with it.

You can get a cover that lies on the carpet, and covers the cable. The idea is not to hide the cable, but to prevent it being a trip hazard, which could hurt you, or damage the TV/socket. This would not be pretty, but it would be cheap and effective, and safe. Also, if you are in a flat, and high up, then you might get reception from a portable aerial.

You've made me think about a cable protector that I saw recently here. It could be fit beneath the carpet as it is only 11mm high. If there is decent underlay, it might not be too visible.

Thank you all once again for your ideas.

I think I have found the solution :j

Paid a visit to b&q last night and got white plastic conduits that will hide the cables and will also be hidden by curtains.

I am now a very happy bunny :j

Thanks once again for all your ideas
