!970s Baby chair renovation
Hi, I have renovated a wooden Mothercare babychair which was bought in the 70s but cannot find the bolts to attach the base to the top. The base can be used as a stool and the top is the chair unit. Bolted together they form the high chair. What I am missing are two bolts or screws which have wings for finger tightening. I…

Outside tap/drain advice needed
We have installed an outside tap. Due to the walls/pipework layout, there was only a small area where we could mount the tap to the outside of the house and unfortunately this was not quite directly over the existing gully/drain which the various pipes/guttering drain into. I have attempted some sort of before/after…

Help finding builder
I am looking for a decorator to do two rooms in our house, plus a plasterer to skin the ceilings in both room and a plumber to replace the radiators in each room. We live in a small village and I have tried in vain to get recommendations for local builders. Problem is I find a decorator but his plumber overquotes. I find a…

Water leaking from pipe on side of house
I think it's the overflow pipe - but don't really know for sure :o . It basically runs the whole time the boiler is on and has caused horrible staining on the wall. The water looks clean and is sort of luke-warm. Any suggestions on how to fix (cheaply). Our central heating doesn't work (well it might do, but it's so noisy…

acoustic double glazing
Having read on these forums, that I may benefit SOUND wise, by having a new sealed unit made, with the normal size of 4mm.,20mm gap, 4mm.,being substituted by 4mm.,18mm gap,6mm. Well, the unit has been made, and I am surprised to see, that the 6mm.glass is in fact, 2x3mm. (bonded together ?),18mm.gap,4mm. I have no issue…

Towel warmers - Do they make effective radiators?
Hi, If I go for a heated to towel warmer for the bathroom, would it also be sufficient enough to act as a radiator for the bathroom? Or is the towel warmer only warm enough to heat towels, but not heat the bathroom itself? I would prefer a good quality stainless steel one, but if I went for chrome plated would it be prone…

Bauknecht DFG2361/WS Cooker Hood Replacement Part - what is it called?
Hi all, I have a Bauknecht DFG2361/WS. I was cleaning the cooker hood and unhinged the transparent glass thing which acts as a protector from the suction of the cooker hood I guess. Anyway, the side of the glass fits into a plastic holder which in turn fits into the cooker hood. The plastic holder has a bit that broke off…

Neighbours becoming a nightmare
I could really use some advice regarding my immediate neighbour. She's a single mum with a 4yr old who rents the house attached to ours. All the other properties including ours are owned. Our gardens at the front are close together, and the paths join in the middle to the doors (they are ex-council). The main problem is…
