What colour combination for new kitchen??

OK so I had it all worked out a couple of months ago - red gloss units; black granite worktops. But then I couldn't find the red I really wanted (Howdens stopped doing it and magnets is burgendy not red).

So then it was black gloss units, white corian workstops with moulded undermount sink and red glass splashbacks.

Now I've just seen a red quartz from silestone so am thinking white gloss units or maybe black but no idea about splashback!

So confused! Plus the price for the corian is over £4500 which is scary, suppose I could live without the upstands on the island which will bring it down by a £1000.

Have attached plan from magnet trade. dimensions for kitchen are 2.95M by 3.4M (longer wall with range cooker on it). Splashback will only be up to wall units and fridge/freezer will be black, not white as in photo

HELP - which one do you think I should do - so confused!!

TIA

As much as I love red I don't think it is to everyone's taste so, unless you are thinking of staying there for ever, re-sale needs to be taken in to consideration.

I went for white gloss units with black granite and have introduced red as my accent colour with kettle, toaster, tea towels etc.

I agree, I HATE red with a vengeance, it's very much a personal taste thing, but red is a bit Marmite, it brigns otu strong feelings!

I'd go with something that's easy to clean, and nothing too glossy even though it's very fashionable at the moment. anything that's very fashionable will date quickly.

We have black glossy worktops and they need dried off with a microfibre cloth after cleaning to bring them up nicely with no streaks. I can't imagine having to do a whole kitchen's worth of that on a daily basis because the fingerprints on a glossy door would drive me to distraction.

The white/black or black/white option sounds good - graphite is a bit less harsh than black though, might be something to consider ( and easier to match accessories with also) I like the idea of having accessories that can be easily replace any time you fancy a change - red kettle, red bread bin, even a red Smeg fridge could be swopped for different colours once you fancied a change or wanted to tone things down a bit when selling the house.

Thank you both; think I'll stick with black units, white worktop then and if I go off red I can always change the glass splashback to a different colour.

Now I just need to either go for a corian equivalent at half the price or see if quartz works out better value - I like granite but not in a white colour.

Just realised I wasn't able to post the photo in - not sure why, but it asks for a url when i try to insert image :(

Some of the kitchens look gorgeous in the showroom.

But then you do need the reality check Dogs and Children . Our new house is being built on the basis that it will see us out, so quality and classic looks are the order of the day.

We have corian worktops and sink, but the splashbacks were ridiculously expensive for the kind of wear/use they were going to get. We wanted something plain and sleek that matched exactly, so in the end OH found a local company that makes laminated board. They had a huge colour palette to choose from, so he bought the samples chart home and found one that matched the corian exactly. Then we had sheets made up to our specs and he fitted them in the same way you'd fit glass splashbacks. A fraction of the cost, and they look fabulous; we've never had any problems with them at all. It meant we could afford the corian we wanted in the areas most likely to need and benefit from it.

As gorgeous as it sounds....I'd be very careful if you chose white worktops. It'll show up stains very easily - as I discovered when my son spilt beetroot on ours!!! Luckily we got it out in the end.

If you love red, then splashbacks are probably the cheapest part to introduce colour - or paint one wall as an highlight, which is what I intend to do when we redo our kitchen as I want an orange kitchen :D
