Toilet problem - help!
[Deleted User]
Went to visit my elderly parents just now and they've a problem with their toilet. It's flushing okay, and the cystern is filling up fine, but after the flush is finished, the water level in the bowl itself is very low (there'a hardly any in it).
Does anyway have any idea what's causing this - and is there a DIY solution we could try before contacting a plumber (mum has tried ringing her usual one but he's away cos of Easter).
Help !!

If you fill the bowl with water from a bucket or large jug, does the level rise and stay risen?
I don't see how a blocked drain would cause the level to go low and stay low - a blockage would surely cause the level in the bowl to rise?0 -
OK, whilst it's a Bank Hoilday and the plumbers are sunning themselves...:D

A blocked drain will cause the water in the bowl to rise (sometimes right to the rim of the pan).
A partial blockage will syphon the water out of the pan, resulting in a low water level in the pan (usually accompanied with a gurgling sound).0 -
A couple of photos down the inspection chamber could show if we are on the right scent.0
