A question about external rendering...
Are there any external plasterer/renderers or anyone who happens to know on MSE forums? Hope so! We live in a 1950's steel "pre-fab" house. This means that internally our house is "normal" to look at but externally it has metal along the top half (all the way around) along the 1st floor of the house. The lower half is…

Fitted black out curtains now have light coming in over the top of the curtains
We fitted a pair of blackout linings to our curtains and the way these fitted to the curtain hooks meant we had to have the curtains hooked to the windows on the lowest part of the tape that runs along th etop of the curtains. Meaning there is a gap at the top of the curtain near the ceiling so we have light coming in now…

More Boiler Problems
Hi All, I had a problem with my boiler and was getting hot water but no heating. I called British gas and now had this problem fixed. I took out the boiler cover so had a full inspection that has now thrown a spanner into the works. My boiler needs a new flue kit as there is nothing on the side of the house so they have…

Replacinf a sealed plug - sorry if its daft question
Hi All, I've looked online for this answer but can't find a 'yes/no'. .. A mouse/rat has chewed through our fridge-freezer cable and exposed some wire. I've unplugged the appliance, but does it still hold a charge (i.e have a capacitor)? The original plug is a sealed 'don't touch' kinda plug. Can I just snip the wire above…

Karndean floor fitter - Cardiff
Hi all, Think we have decided to get a Karndean floor fitted in our new kitchen/ dining room. It looks like if we buy the product in the shop it would be £30 per m squared, plus fitting. Online I can find it for around £20 m squared, so seems sensible to get it online and find a separate fitter. Any ideas on how I go about…

I smell gas!
Had a kitchen fitted a month ago. Can smell gas in the cupboard next to the coooker. Should I: a) Search for leak with a naked flame? ;) b) Put up with it, after all it's been passed safe by the Gas Safe man? c) Call out the gas man even though there is no significant pressure drop and I cannot detect a leak using soap…

Is there a stone mason in the house?
Recently I have been given the go ahead to repair one of my ancestor's head stones which was broken about 4 inches above ground level when a tree fell during a storm 20 years back. The idea is to drill holes into top part and bottom section and then use stainless steel rods to reconnect the two parts. Is there anywhere I…

Catch not working on washing machine door.
The door is not clicking closed on my 3 year old Indesit WIL143 machine. It looks completely normal, and when the door is open the catch lever looks fine and moves smoothly. When I try to close it it just won't catch properly, so I can't use my machine. Does anyone know if it is something easy to fix? Can I do it myself?…

Tarmac or block paved drive
Hi, Just wondered if anyone had any advice / experience with the above? We have loose gravel over our drive and over the years it has made its way onto the nearest main road and away! I also think that the gravel was just thrown onto compacted earth as we regularly have to weed and pull up little trees of weeds! I'd like…

Creda W220VW washing machine-Is it ok just to use it with just a cold water feed?
Hello, Just moved into a new house! I have a Creda Creda W220VW washing machine. Question about kitchen fitting...
Hi - been looking at a Howdens kitchen (Burford). It is cream but the carcasses will be white. To get round this they have decor ends which are cream and cover up the exposed sides.
