Interior PVCu window sills
Hi guys, Quick question(s); how good are pvcu window sills in comparison to wooden ones? How easy are they to fit? (How do you fit them?) and (i've seen some in wickes) do you have to fit them over the top of existing wooden ones or do they go directly onto the wall bit (sash?) Cheers RFTG x

Loft insulation and electrics
Morning, Noticed the house was a bit chilly this weekend so popped into the loft to check the insulation. Three quarters of the loft is fully insulated with the space banket type stuff on the floor between the joists/rafters (can never remember which is which). However where the bathroom is the insulation has all been…

Triton shower repair
I need to find someone to (hopefully) repair my Triton power shower, which seems to be cutting out. My last electrician hit the big time (Channel 4) so doesn't do small jobs now, so I'm looking for one who does. I've asked around at work and not had any suggestions. The trouble is I know that many would suggest replacing,…

Argos refund policy
My mother bought a washing machine from our local Argos store, as soon as it was delivered she began using it. On it's first cycle it stuck and a light came on. She contacted the help desk and they said she had to contact the after sales team. They have arranged an engineer to come to repair it, but my greivance is that…

Any Ideas on keeping a rented house warm?
Hey there all, I was wondering if anybody could give me a few more idea to help keep my house warm! I share a house with a good friend, it is a large old 3 bedroom above a shop with large steel, single glazed windows which as of late is unbearably cold. I have taken all the measures I can think of to weather proof the…

Kitchen wall cabinet - where to find special-sized one?
Hi all, Just a quickie for you kitchen experts out there. I'm after a shallow/short kitchen wall unit - I've seen some nice ones in Ikea - that are about 700mm long by 400mm high. Trouble is depth - they are 370 deep which will protrude a little too much into the headroom at worksurface level (only a galley kitchen and I…

Which make and model of power sander?!
Good Evening All, I have recently moved into a much neglected Edwardian property and am undertaking all of the decorating myself. From experience it will take a long time to manually remove the layers of paint from the skirting boards, picture rails and architrave so I would like to invest in a good power sander. I…

coloured glass chunks for gas fire?
My mum wantes to replace the coal pieces on her gas fire with chunks of coloured glass - the red/orange/yellow sort that you often find on old fashioned electric fires. The fire is never used, she just wants it for decorative purposes so doesn`t matter if it should not really be used on a gas fire. The trouble is this…

Soakaway question.
Just been pondering, as we get deluged with rain yet again...... I live in a semi-detached house and at the front of the pair there's just one drainpipe serving the guttering for both houses - and therefore serving a vast expanse of roof. Now this happens to come to ground on our side - & it goes off into a soakaway under…

Best value condensing tumble dryer?
We're about to convert an unused downstairs loo into a small 'utility' room and need a condenser dryer. The room has an extractor fan and I'm not too bothered about noise as I can obviously shut the door on the dryer when it's in use. Any tips from those that have one? There's only me and DH, so there's never a vast load.
