Looking at putting this in kitchen/diner. Looks beautiful but I've heard walnut is not the hardest wood and marks easily. Anyone have an opinion??

Black walnut is slightly softer than oak, but other species, such as red or Brazillian are considerably harder. All hardwoods will dent if something heavy is dropped on them and most don't like stilleto heels.

Go for it, walnut is considerably more attractive than oak....;)
Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:
  • I agree with "Thechippy", I use Americal Black Walnut for kitchen worktops and cupboards. It can have a fair bit of variation in colour ,IMO its far nicer than Oak.It is a bit softer and will mark but like Chippy says all hardwoods do.

The Hardest apart from Lignum Vitae is Beech, very hard but no character.....

Black walnut is a Yes from me..Its cheaper than Super Prime quality Oak too..
