Can someone please advise me on fitting a solid oak worktop. I understand they have to be oiled? But why? and with what oil? Also do I have to have some sort of heat barrier between appliances and the worktop? If so what do i buy and again why? Thanks!

This is where I bought mine from and I am very pleased with them0 -
They also sell heat barrier things. I have one where my dishwasher is. Just a silver foil thing that sticks to base of worktop.0

Oil the bottom before you install
Most cheaper items will require a machine sand thro the grades then hand sand , wipe with white spirits thro the sanding process then 5-6 coats of danish oilHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0

No hassle to it really and it is quite theraputic and satisfying giving it an occasional oil. And I am definitely one for making life easy! Worth it in my opinion for the lovely wooden worktops I have. I would definitely get them again.0

I just ditched the oak worktops from my house - fitted the year before we moved in and were black and marked all over. Had always wanted them til I had em!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I can recommend the Osmo products...I used one layer of the water proofer then 2 of the top wax oil and it has been great so far ( ok only a few months ) They say the wax is far more resistant to staining than regular oils.
Make sure you treat both sides of the worktop before you fix it down to stop it bowing later.0 -
Will I have to try and oil underneith aswell every few months or just the top? I think its all ready been 'treated' whatever that means but I want to oil it to make sure all over, loads of times!0
