What is the best way to remove rust from a chrome heated towel rail?

    Something like solvol autosol metal polish will do it, but you may still have pitting on the chrome where the rust was.

    It will only be a temporary fix it will go rusty again,

    If the chrome is bad enough for rust to have formed then removing the rust will only be a temporary fix.. As MX5huggy says, it will come back. I suppose it all depends how bad is the rust pitting..
    I can afford anything that I want.
    Just so long as I don't want much.

    light surface rust can be removed simply with wd40.
    once chrome is pitted though, its there for ever.
    modern chrome is rubbish now.
    Get some gorm.

    I think i've seen small cans of chrome spray paint in B&q. check it out and maybe you could just rub it down with emery paper and spray it.

    I've used Brasso in the past on chrome to remoive rust and it seemed to work well.
    Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

    It's the base metal under the chrome that rusts (Chrome almost totally rust resistant)
    Once the chrome and any other layers are eaten through by rust from inside there's not much you can do. Preventing rust conditions- water and oxygen helps but is often impossible.
    This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

    Unfortunately, as ormus says, modern chrome towel rails are rubbish. They rust in no time and there's little you can do except replace them...
    For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.
