Should I be paying these???

Options
Hi all, just wanted some of your opinions please. I am currently paying about £17 per month to cover breakdown of my TV (approx 3 years old), Washing Machine and Tumble Drier and Fridge (all 2 years old). On top of this I pay £17 to cover boiler breakdown and annual servicing, and £8 per month to cover my sky equipment. Am I wasting my hard earned £42 per month??

I agree waste of money. Modern stuff is more reliable these days although some models are better than others

if you got money to burn put some of that money aside for a rainy day just in case

I would also cancel sky when I could, waste of money. Get a freeview box or freesat box
  • Thanks for your response. I suppose where I was coming from was what if they broke, could I afford the call out fees / replacement items?? Isnt this why people buy them?? I'm not justifying them by the way:confused:

You be surprised how much money you can save on here.

My income hasnt increased drastically years ago I had to pay for insurance say for car monthly, same with road tax every 6 months. Now I shop around get cashback and pay upfront

I also have some savings and thankfully no debt accept mortgage

just put the money you're saving in a deposit account and then you wil have more than enough cash when the time comes to replace anything

How many times have you needed any of these items repaired in the time you had a the cover? I'm guessing not enough to cover the costs the expenses....

some manufacturers provide extended warranty cheaper. Shops look at extended warranty as a real money maker

use a nationwide credit card on electrical items over £50 and you get a extra year warranty (selected items).
Sky usually offer discounted repairs if you are on a contract with them..so cancel the sky repair fee.

i agree to a certain extent with all the posters however we have always had cover for our washing machines, it seems to be on all the time doing kids clothes etc. our last machine (zanussi) after two years started breaking down regular and we had people out several times replacing bearings, twice replacing the arm which holds the drum and other faults, our present machine (Hotpoint) has been repaired twice and if we had had to pay for all the faults i doubt we could have afforded them. I wouldn't take it for any other appliance however

  • So far, touching wood, I've not had a need for any of them, I suppose I was just being over-cautious. £42 per month does sound a lot when you write it down. I like nickj's idea. Will defo look into that one. Thanks all
