Garden Fence- might be asked to pay
I have checked the title deeds/register for our house and it says nothing about who is responsible for the garden fences. Looking from the house to the back garden on the left there is a low fence, about chest height and on the right there is a taller fence, both sets of fencing have supports on both sides so there is no…

Electric shower recommendation?
I want to get a good 10.5Kw electric shower installed, and was wondering whether anyone could recommend a good make? I'm flexible on cost, but would prefer a dual-head model which offers both hand-held and "rain shower" heads. I'd also be interested in anything which has facilities to deal with scaling. TIA for any…

House Alarm - Help Please
Unfortunately we were affected by the floods - not by water luckilly but by the loss of power. After two days without power the internal buzzer alarm started to sound (I think this was because the internal battery had run down). Initially tried just resetting the alarm from the control panel but no good. If I tampered with…

Save on boiler electricity usage
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I wouldn't know how to formulate a good search to see if this is the case. I just checked the electricity usage of my Worcester 24CDi boiler in idle (i.e. doing absolutely nothing) and it was 9W. I hardly use the boiler in the Summer as I produce my hot water from a gas-heated…

Plasterboard (overboard) ceilings
We're decorating a house that's been semi-modernised. All the ceilings are wallpapered with thick old wallpaper and it's !!!!! to get off. As I understand the best option is to overboard rather than pull down the current plasterboard and then have a plasterer skim the new board. I figured it might save money if I do this…

Solid wood floors vs Laminate
Which do I go for? Does real wood scratch easily with a dog, furniture? I would like my dining room and lounge fitted with it. I've had cheapo Homebase beech laminate in my current lounge but would like better stuff in my new house, perhaps walnut or laminate walnut colour - but not too expensive! Does anyone know of any…

Smoke nuisance from chimney.
I think I've finally located the source of regular woodsmoke smell in my flat. It seems that a few nights per week it smells of smoke. I've been starting to go and out look for bonfires etc whenever this happens, just so I can look for any patterns. The source might be a bit more simple than that though. There is a house…
