Need to get some walls rendered. Do I just contact a plasterer or do I need to find someone who specialises in rendering?

Rendering is the coat on the outside wall of a house, plaster is on the inside. It would be unusual to render internally.

As for prices I know someone who recently had a large dining room skimmed (thin coat over old plaster) and the ceiling done for £70, which is particularly cheap and the workmanship is tops.

Daily rate for a plasterer in this area would typically be iro £150.

I guess London would be a fair bit higher.

That is cheap. I just had two rooms done for £820 total (not London),
incl. all materials. One room was particularly bad, though, with a fair bit of plaster falling off back to the brick work.

Explanations are correct, of course & price will depend on several things, but...

Whay does it need rendering, has the old cement fallen off, or is it just a couple of areas - you might be OK, trying to fix these yourself, if it's just small patches!!

& if it's ALL falling off, could you hack it all away & leave a good enough surface to paint with exterior wall finish?

You might be surprised at the result - that's what we did at our last place, on admitidly a back wall, by the patio, so not so important finish needed.
