House Alarm - Help Please

Unfortunately we were affected by the floods - not by water luckilly but by the loss of power.
After two days without power the internal buzzer alarm started to sound (I think this was because the internal battery had run down). Initially tried just resetting the alarm from the control panel but no good.
If I tampered with the main control panel (removed fuses etc) the outside alarm would go off. Eventually managed to isolate the wire for the internal buzzer on the main control box (white wire) and then disconnected the power wire from the control panel (with control pad). This stopped the internal buzzer going off and the external alarm sounding.
Unfortunately I am left with the little blue light on the alarm box outside continually flashing. Have tried reconnecting everything (now power is back on) but cannot reset the system and stop the alarm (internal buzzer) going off.
Any help anyone (would prefer to try to resolve without calling out an alarm person).

Hi Cloud Dog,
I have some alarm system engineer manuals, what's the make and model?
FH0 -
you mean the stroke on the bell box is activated.
Can you not enter system into engineer mode and reset the system?0 -
Guys (or gals)
Thanks for your reply's.
The alarm is a Clarkson one although I've not been able to track down the instruction manual and therefore the model, etc.
Alias, not sure how you go in to 'engineer mode' to reset.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Clouddog,
Sorry, I have no manuals for a Clarkson alarm. Is Clarkson the installer or the manufacturer?
You enter engineer mode by inputting the engineers code, it's unlikely you will have this as these are kept secret by the alarm company, Engineer mode allows you to re-program your alarm system, disable the 24Hr tamper circuit and in some cases reset the alarm after an activation (some companies program systems so that only an engineer can reset after an activation rather than the customer).
I guess you have 4 options available
1. Call in an NCOSS alarm company to sort it out
2. Get some ladders and disconnect the power and internal battery in the bell box, then de-commission the alarm control panel.
3. As 2 but then spend £50 - £80 on a new control panel (Texecom are quite good) which will come with the installation manual, connect the existing zones, sounders etc to your new box and program the system (with this approach you will have the engineer code).
4. Get your hands on an installation manual which will describe how to restore to factory settings, re-program the system, replace the battery and cross your fingers that the problem has been sorted.
Option 1 is recommended as your alarm will be sorted out professionally and as an NCOSS registered alarm company will have serviced it you will get a discount from your insurance company.
Hope this helps

Forkhandles, thanks. I think Clarkson in the installer. I think I'll consider option 1 and get a quote.

before you get someone out
try putting the alarm back was the way it was - with a new battery (the new battery comes charged)
to reset it put the power on, and type in your code. press reset twice.
I usally put in Texecom panels, so if you have to replace use one of them
these instructions refer to a texecom / optima systemsbaldly going on...0 -
Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread.:o
I have an internal buzzer with my alarm system.
When I was away the alarm went off. External rang for alloted time, the internal continued till I returned home the next day.
I would like to diable the internal buzzer or at least reduce the time it goes off for. Is this possible?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Hi Rikki,
You first need to find out if the internal sounder is on the 24 hour tamper circuit.
Easier said than done, if the sounder has 2 wires going to it then it isn't and you can just disconnect it, if it's got 4 then it is on the tamper circuit.
If standard 6 core cable is used to the sounder you can't tell so it's a case of Russian roulette because as soon as you try to open up the internal sounder you'll find out if it's on the tamper circuit, a good idea would be to use earplugs:eek:
Bear in mind though, some companies set the alarm so that the system must be reset by an engineer after an activation, but I guess you already know if yours has been programmed for this.
If you have the engineer code everything is much easier as with the code you can in most cases disable the internal sounder or at least set it for the required amount of minutes as long as you have the programming manual.
If you have the engineer code but no manual you can put the unit in engineer mode to disable the 24 hour tamper circuit then open up the internal sounder, check and disable (if it is wired to the tamper circuit you'll need to join the 2 tamper wires together, solder would be recommended).

Cloud_dog whereabouts are you?
If it's in the area of Tewkesbury, Worcs etc I may be able to help you.
I'm with a SSAIB alarm company and would be happy to help you out.
