Dodgy lawnmower?

Specimen tree challenge
Can anyone suggest a specimen tree for my front garden? It should be no more than 8 feet high when mature and keep its leaves in winter. The only one I can think of is a Rhus which although it drops its leaves does have interesting fruit lasting all winter.

New Turf help please
About a month ago we had a section of our garden returfed. It has been growing well and OH has cut it on a high level a couple of times. Yesterday he cut it on a lower level and was obviously too short - today most of the new turf has gone brownish - has he killed it :mad: or will a good soaking bring it back?

Energy saving R63 spot bulbs?
Does anyone know if there are cheap energy saving R63 bulbs out there? Our kitchen uses about 12 of them so as you can imagine it mounts up especially as we like our cooking! I've seen them in Homebase for about 4 quid each but that seems steep. Anyone found anything cheaper?
