Decorating my flat - is Wilko paint any good?

I've just bought my first place. I've bored on about it in countless other threads on MSE. It's in good condition, just needs cleaning properly and then painting. I'm surprised by how excited I am by planning what I'm going to do to it actually.

I've got a paint chart for Wilko paints. I think this is the own brand found in the cut-price Wilkinson stores. I've got 4 rooms to paint: living, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. I'm keeping things simple and cost effective: one colour for living room and bedroom, another colour for bathroom and kitchen, using the special paint. My selection process has consisted of drinking some beer and then looking at the colours, going "no, no, no, no,.....I want that one". I'm now going to drink some more beer and see if I have the same answer. Then looking again tomorrow when sober.

So far the results are:
living room, bedroom: wishy washy Yellow aka "butter melt"
bathroom, kitchen: "moonlight white"
skirting boards etc: "plain white"

I'm quite liking the simple approach.

Anyway, are Wilko paints any good, or are there any special offers this weekend, like B&Q 10% off or the like?

personally i wouldn't touch wilko paint. paint that cheap is cheap for a reason.

dulux trade is the best paint to go for. it goes further, goes on easier and looks better. however it is not the cheapest!

b&q have normal dulux paint mixing machine colours with 20% off this w/e

homebase had 10% off day today, may be tomorrow as well, is worth checking.

homebase own brand paint is made by crown so worth considering if you want to do things a bit cheaper but personally i would go with dulux

OK, thanks, I had no idea how cheap Wilko might be; it's just a random colour chart I was given. It's a nice limited range though, I don't want too much choice.

I don't mind paying for good paint, since I don't need that much anyway.

B&Q have 20% off this weekend? That'll be worth pursuing I think.

Take your wilko colours and line them up with a dulux chart, bound to be a match somewhere, then you won't be tempted by anything else!!

I made the mistake of getting cheap paint when I moved ito my new house, money being tight and all that. It was so thin ended up having to paint the walls three times, and used double the amount of paint, costing what I would have paid for decent stuff, and taken half the time doing it!!

i defo wouldnt go anywhere near wilko paint

i used it (albeit about 7 years ago) and it was awful to put on - i ended up painting over it with dulux anyway

my friend used B&Q paint when she last decorated, and said it was the best she had ever used

I used wilko paint a few yers back after had a fire and didnt really have much to spend on things, the spread was fantastic, only needed one coat, doesnt smell, the colour was was lovely and rich, easy to clean. I did the bedroom with it (I used coastline and a dark chocolate) and it lookeed gorgeous and still going strong now, no peeling or anything (unlike the B&Q colours in the bathrooom, had to repaint that 3 times now )

We too have used coastline(previously called coastline was biscuit)thats what is says on the tin, from Wilkos my husband loves it and would paint all the rooms in this colour if i let him!! Good coverage and lasts well, I think it is dense rich matt, its not the cheapest one they do.
