Draincock won't open
In the never ending quest to save money, I'm trying to repair our hot water cylinder - our only source of hot water in a non-gas-supplied village. I deduced that the immersion heating elements have blown, and have bought 2 11" replacements. Now the problem: After turning off cold supply to the tank ...and opening all hot…

Gaps between floorboards and stopg-p.com
I've just moved into a place with lovely period floorboards, but there are gaps between them that I'd like to fill to stop things falling though and the smell of smoke coming up. I've searched around and found http://www.stopg-p.com. Has anyone else seen/heard of/used this product? Is there something that would work better?

Best steam generator iron?
Having read the earlier thread, it's now become clear that there's another appliance I didn't know I needed! ;D What is the best way to ironing heaven? Apparently not the bargain from Lidl's, maybe the Tefal ... I've also seen a Bosch one as a best buy ... any recommendations? Any to avoid? ??? ???

New gas boiler regulations question

Does anyone have any idea how much it should cost to have a new boiler fitted. I currently have a hot tank in the bathroom, cold one in the loft. I was thinking of getting a combi boiler and getting rid of the tank in the bathroom. My current boiler is about 12-15 years old. I know it's a bit vague as it probably needs…

What could be the problem?
When the thermostat turns off the central heating and hot water, the hot water continues to get heated and there's constant noises of pumping and gurgling. Manual turn off doesn't work either and I have to turn off the whole system, including the gas pilot and electric switch to stop the constant heating and pumping of the…

Two-way mirrors (nothing pervy!!!)
Had an idea about fitting two-way mirrors (or one way glass if you prefer!!) as part of my shower cabinet. Doing so would mean having a mirror to use bathroom side, yet what would appear like glass would be shower side, thus letting light in (and allowing you to look out). Anyone had any dealings with two-way mirrors,…

showerbaths
Hi, I am interested in people's opinions or experiences with showerbaths. You know the ones that are usually the same length as standard baths but are wider at the tap end? We are going to extend our bathroom and might have to remove the old electric shower, so I was wondering if the showerbath is any good? We have just…
