Central Heating System won't fill up!

Hi, I'm new on here, can anyone help? we drained the heating system to replace a valve and a joint that were leaking but now we can't seem to re-fill it.

Please can anyone help as it's freeeeeezing and we can't afford a plumber. :'( that s supposed to be a sad crying smiley but it didn't work :'(

Silly question, but I take it you have closed the drain tap before you refilled?

If it is closed then all you should need to do is open the bleed valves on the radiators to allow air to be expelled as the system refills. Don't forget to close each one as all the air is expelled, i.e. water drips out.

As central heating is a closed system (or mine is), water will not fill the radiators unless there is somewhere for the air to escape to.

To actually refill the system, you should have a couple of taps on your boiler. Turn them both on to start the water flow and be sure to keep the pressure just above 1 bar on the pressure indicator on the boiler. If pressure goes too high then turn the taps off, keep turning on/off to keep the pressure correctly adjusted.

You may also want to put some Inhibitor into the system to stop the boiler and radiators sludging up.

I think that's it, unless I'm missing something.

you are goin to make me blush ;)

The system Mini Mouse has is not a pressurized system.
It has a 3 port value(unwired) manual type, there used to be a national company who fitted this type of system and i cant remember what they where called something Heat.
Cheap and cherrful systems they also had their own make of boiler as well(maybe someone can remember) them.
Anyway advised Mini-mouse as what to do.so they should be ok.

If anyone remembers this company LMK as it anoying me.
  • Thanks for the help guys much appreciated, it's sort of working now

  • Hey Plumb1,
I have a vague recollection that the three way manual valve was used by Harp Heating!
I think they are still obtainable, but from where??
