Hi,
I am interested in people's opinions or experiences with showerbaths. You know the ones that are usually the same length as standard baths but are wider at the tap end?
We are going to extend our bathroom and might have to remove the old electric shower, so I was wondering if the showerbath is any good? We have just had a lovely new combi/condensing boiler installed so hot water is available instantly anyway. Does anyone know what the pros and cons of a showerbath are?
thanks
Louise

We had a showerbath fitted last year, and are really pleased with it (now we've got over the price!). One of the things to look out for if you do decide to get one is where the taps can be situated. Some of the models we looked at had to have the taps in the centre at the front of the bath, which would mean the possibility of catching your foot and falling when climbing in. Ouch! We went with an overflow filler, which is out of the way and looks great, but it does take ages to fill the bath (partly because of the volume of the bath and partly because of the narrow pipes to the filler). Thanks for your reply
I think due to the layout of our bathroom we will have to have the taps at one end, so no stubbed toes for us!!

Hi Louise,
we have just had a shower bath fitted and I love it.... However, there are some pros and cons.
First of all we bought ours (in fact the whole bathroom including all tiles and cupboars etc) from Tiles r us. Now, I'm sure you wont find this with all the tiles r us stores, but, we had no end of problems 'after' we paid in full when we ordered the bathroom in the shop. I wont go into detail here about the problems we had with this store... but rest assured they were many and now several months later, we still do not have working taps on the bath!!
Having said that, I looked around for a shower bath for a long time before I saw the one we bought from them, .. and it is nice... It has the taps at the front but they don't get in the way at all... but I did choose some nice neat little taps to make sure of that. The screen is glass and not the cheaper plastic ones. One criticism I have with the srcreen is, it doesn't curv enough and unless the shower head is pointing downwards the floor gets quite wet.
I have seen showerbaths where there are 2 screens where they close together, ... that seems to be a good idea. Although a plus point with the one I have is the fact that it can be pushed back against the wall at the end of the bath so it is completey out of the way if you want to have a bath...that way you don't feel too confined behind a screen.

Thanks Tilly,
Sorry to hear of your probs with Tiles R Us - don't you just hate shoddy service
I like the idea of the two screens folding away - it's definately giving me something extra to think about!
Thanks again

Shower baths are the best, having said that I have only had a bath twice since mine was fitted in March. Showers are so much more practical. I got the shorter version bath which is very deep and wide at the shower end but only 1500mm long. I got mine from Travis Perkin builders merchants, and its made by Fordham. The screen is curved and very well constructed. It is certainly worth the extra money. My bath was not pre-drilled for taps so I got to choose. One point to consider with the awkward bath shapes and tap location is access should taps need to be replaced. My most excellent plumber told me he would not be back to replace taps if I had put them in the place where I wanted. Go get one !!0
