EA giving wrong information about my house
Our buyer pulled out this week , so I asked the agent to make sure all the other people who were interested are aware it's back on the market. However, today I've found out that a friend of a friend rang for details and was told it was sold! They mentioned to the other person (people I don't see much and can't contact…

Private Road to public highway.
The house we are attempting to buy is on a private unmade road. At the end of the road is a largish plot of land which developers are trying to get their hands on to build 10 houses. However to get to that land you have to drive on the private unmade road. How could the developers get their hands on this road and make it…

Is the housing market in N Ireland cooling?
Im in a position now where I could potentially buy a house. The only prob is that I live in N Ireland and prices are through the roof. Does anybody think I should hold off for a few years in hope of a decline in prices or will they continue to up at a slower rate? What way do you see the market going?

Which Deposit Protection service to use? (i'm the tenant)
I need some opinions or experience on available Deposit Protection Services. I have a slightly weird situation where my landlord wanted an informal agreement, but is now in the process of changing their minds as it appears they've just become aware of the rule/law that says because they haven't used a Deposit Protection…

Britain's deflating buy-to-let bubble
In 1996, when buy-to-let mortgages were first launched, only 20,000 were taken out. By June 2007 this figure had grown to 940,000 and the total amount borrowed to £108bn I think as long the rental market is strong, there will be no major drop in prices. What do you think?

Has the crash finally bugun?
There are 3 major HP measures reporting drops for September ... Halifax, Home.co.uk and Rightmove. When was the last time that happened? The most recent quarterly figures from the Landreg showed drops for 3 regions of the UK ... the last time that happened was after Sep 11th. There is no related major terrorist attack this…

Getting it out into the open and SPAM
I don't care. Read the policy which appears in the header of the forum page. Then consider this: To paraphrase an American president - If it looks like a spammer, smells like a spammer, quacks like a spammer then it probably is a spammer. You didn't say if it was a relative or friend of yours? Don't bother PM'ing me again…

Problems with Garage Lease
I would really appreciate some advice... I bought a leasehold garage at auction recently. When my solicitor checked the lease, he found that the garage lease was linked to a flat lease and that the garage could only be leased to the person owning the flat. The mortgage on the flat was also stated on the garage lease. My…

Houses not selling yet sellers not reducing price!
I have seen a good number of properties, which are empty, on the market for over 2-3 months, not selling and yet sellers are not reducing prices (not below 2-3% from asking price). It's not that all of them are so rich that they don't have any mortgages. A good number of people are still playing mortgages on empty houses,…

Electric heating - as good as burning money?
I'm going to look at a rented flat today and it only has electric heating. I've heard from friends that it is really costly to run which means you can basically never use it and hence you are always freezing! I'd really appreciate any experiences of this type of heating as apart from that the flat sounds great. Thanks xxx

Completion clause
We have found a home - hurrah (I say home to hopefully prevent people posting about how if I had only waited another 6 months I could have picked up a house for TUPPENCE). Not getting too excited yet as 1 in 3 house buys fall thru apparently! However the vendor wants to move quickly, this isn't a problem for us at all and…

How to slash your rent by up to 80%
In return for babysitting empty properties to deter squatters, property firm Camelot Property charges its ‘guardians’ only one-fifth of local rents. This works out at about £200 a month in London, elsewhere £150. What kind of properties are on offer? Properties include houses, churches and castles, so you could end up…

Streetwise Publications

Tenants & Landlords security and rights
I've read a few posts about tenants rights, tenants securities and landlords rights and landlords securities. To try and compromise between these areas, for tenants wanting security for a longer period how about this suggestion.* A standard 1 months rent is used as a deposit. * The tenant through agreement can build up an…

We are unable to move together into either one of our homes due to mine being too small and his being out of the area (issues around daughters school - but that's a…

Landlord lied about the flat - how to get money back?!
Hi everyone, I am renting one bedroom flat with my boyfriend. The flat was found by an agency (and we had problems from the very beginning - they had 'forgotten' to put my boyfriend in admission fee form and holding deposit receipt and actually thought there had been only me moving in, so when the landlord found out, she…
