Whats the best makes for garden hand tools?
Bought cheap garden forks in the past & I know they don't last long. DH needs a hoe, to get the weeds out from cracks in the patio & drive (lots of weeds). Whats the best makes for hoes, indeed for all garden hand tools? Something really tough, that you buy once & it lasts for years. Thanks in advance:beer:

Runner and broad beans - how to tell them apart?
Not having any inkling of how things spread, I put three cane wigwams along the side of my 6 foot by four foot raised bed and, with hindsight, quite stupidly put runner beans in one, broad beans in the middle, and sugar snap peas at the other end, all proudly grown from seed - my first attempt! They grew and grew,…

Urrgh Slugs in Kitchen
Hi, For quite some time now I will go into the kitchen at night, after 10pm and find a 3inch long slug on the floor or climbing the wall. I kill it with salt and chuck it in the bin. I thought they were coming in through the back door, so I put copper tape accross the floor to try and stop that - I was in the kitchen last…

Hi Everyone, I bought some willow trellis from Wilko's the other day but there are no fixing instructions or screws etc. Whats the best way to fix it to a (painted) brick wall? Anyone got a Polytunnel ?
I have outgrown my 8x6 greenhouse and have a buyer for it in the pipeline so I plan on erecting a 10x15 polytunnel which is as large as I can reasonably go. Do you have one ? Do you like it ? How does it compare to a greenhouse ? Any advice and views willingly taken. Thanks

Potatoes which look like tomatoes...Help!
I'm new at this but i've read quite a bit but i was given some chitted potatoes (which i can't recall the name of) and i planted them as per instruction, kept earthing them up as the shoots broke the soil but had to stop when the soil ridges were so high i couldn't raise it any more. I left them alone for a couple of…

The Great Tomato Experiment!
This year, I bought a packet of cherry tomato seeds from Wilkos and planted them in 3 different places as an experiment: 1. In a growbag in a mini outdoor greenhouse 2. In a raised bed in a sunny position 3. In a deep pot on the window of my south-facing study. So far, the study window ones have done by far the best-…

Plum tree
My plum tree produced a really bumper crop this year and last. I read something recently about having to cut the tree back after a big crop to try and keep the size of the fruit up. They did tend to be a touch small this year and the tree was quite weighted down. Can someone point me in the direction of how and when to cut…

Next door don't do gardening - a "lawn" that's mown twice a year and that's about it. They've got an awful lot on at the moment and other things on their mind.
