Urrgh Slugs in Kitchen
Hi,
For quite some time now I will go into the kitchen at night, after 10pm and find a 3inch long slug on the floor or climbing the wall. I kill it with salt and chuck it in the bin.
I thought they were coming in through the back door, so I put copper tape accross the floor to try and stop that - I was in the kitchen last night and saw one already on the floor and another squeezing out from beneath the plinth and the floor near the kitchen sink, the gap was only 3mm at most.
Seems there must be some of them living under there somewhere - any ideas how to get rid once and for all - do I have to find their nest or something to get rid of all the kids/pregnant mothers?
I assume its reasonably damp and musty under the cupboards.

I used to get this when I lived with a load of other blokes in a student type house
Get some bran, or something like that, oats, weetabix etc, put some on a saucer and leave it close to where you have seen them, then come down in the middle of the night and clear them up, take them outside, chop them into little pieces with scissors, whatever. Keep doing it until you don't see or catch any more.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
...Or seal the gap. Ours used to come from underneath the skirting board, straight onto the carpet!! It took us adges to catch them as the only visible sign of them having been around were those slymmy traces. One late night (or early morning) three of them right on the spot. Chucked them out and job done.0

Do your plinth kickboards not come out? Many are just fixed on with clips to the unit legs, so that you can take them off to fit new flooring or whatever.Val.0

I'm lazy - the boards dont even have clips fitted - just in place with friction.
If I take them off though, I can only catch any visible ones, I'm concerned about trying to find where they come from originally and/or where they breed.
I didnt believe they could get through such small gaps until I saw it last night !0 -
Do you have a gap where the plumbing goes through the wall? That seems the most likely route they'd take, or possibly through an air brick. Sealing gaps with silicone is easy, but not ventilation gaps, obviously. Beware of aerosol polystyrene foam fillers, as they certainly do what it says on the tin....and more....much more.*

Aah! I thought I was the only one! They were on my work surface when I came down in the middle of the night. Wonder how long they've been coming out for their midnight adventure, then sleeping like a baby while necxt morning I've been making my sandwiches for work on the very spot they've been crawling!
:eek::eek:
I have tipped a load of bleach down the back panel of the cupboards, and am getting some pellets to throw behind there today.
