Hi Everyone I've had a search through the threads but haven't found anything on this. I want to open up a savings account for my daughter to put in the money she is given for Christmas, birthdays etc. I've read Martin's article about children's savings accounts, but nothing is mentioned about ethical children's accounts.…

Anyone know about Lidl meat?
Sorry if this has been done elsewhere, I did a search and didn't find anything. Does anyone know about the provenance of Lidl meat? We don't eat a lot of meat and I have to say the prices are tempting, but cheap meat usually means alarm bells (quality, animal welfare etc). Does anyone have any information on this please?…

Recycling Aerosals
My council takes empty aerosals, providing you take all obvious plastic off. However, I'm dubious about this as it clearly says on the cans, don't pressurise or pierce. I'm worried in the heat of a recycle bin, especially in the summer, they could explode What does everyone think?

Maybe I'm just getting old.............
About 18mts ago we switched our electricity supplier to Scottish Power. We chose the green option which would both save us money and at least help us think we were doing a bit more to help the environment. Last week went on line to look at their web site and got a message saying I could save a further £16+ by operating a…

re-using carriers bags and points in Tesco
Proabably someone has said this somewhere already, but if not: Okay we all know that we can re-use carrier bags and surely know that you can get 1 point from tescos per bag re-used. However if you are like me, with good intentions, but forget to take the bags when out shopping, then simply take some out of the recycling…

Making your own jotter pads (note books)
I recycle paper, into home made notebooks- well, for jotting messages down, notes, shopping lists, things to do, etc. My method is saving all rubbish paper that has a blank side to it ie letters, leaflets from school etc which are normally A4 size. I then cut them to size, either in half or in quarters (which ever size…

An Inconvenient Truth - you must see this!
If you have to buy one film in 2007 then it must be an Inconvenient Truth, infact it should be issued to every teacher and lecturer throughout the UK as standard and filtered down to the kids and pupils!! Its an eye opener and certainly makes you think about the planet, recycling and climate care. The most inexpensive copy…

The effect of recycling... More Damage Than Good!
Just came across a news article on the sky news website about the waste we recycle here in the UK is actually doing a lot more harm than good, half way around the world. http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30200-1246242,00.html I try my best to recycle as much as I can, but after reading this article, I'm not too sure…

Local Govt Association wants to charge us for non recyclable waste
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/08012007/344/charges-urged-landfill-rubbish.html Will it work or will it just incurr more fly tipping? We are fairly good at recycling. Our council was one of the last in the country to introduce a recycling scheme, but now our own household refuse has fallen by 50% in volume. However, in our area…

Is there pedal power?
Does this sound mad? I'd like an excercise bike that could provide the energy to drive household devices like TV, washing machine, mobile phone charging. Also that it could somehow be hitched up to a battery or something that stores energy. Is there anything like that? Would it be possible to devise something like that? I…

Mooncups and young users
Hi all - I know there's a long thread on mooncups - in fact I think I'm on it somewhere! - but this is a slightly different issue. My daughter is likely to be staring periods soon (poor kid - she's only 11) and has asked when she'll be able to use a mooncup. Does anyone have a daughter using one who could comment? It does…
