Hello
I'm a primary school teacher and have just taken over 'science' - I'm osrting all the resources and I am going to buy rechargeable batteries for electricity , torches etc - but at the moment we have tons of nonrechargeable batteries................ what do I do with them?
Sarah
Do I need any particular type of batteries for use in our science work - or are all rechargeable batteries the same?

the higher the MaH is on a bttery, the more powerful it should be. So opt for the highest MaH rating you can, it will be worth it in the long run.
In regards to disposing of batteries, your local council should have a disposal area at the amenities site, where all batteries are accepted, including car batteries.

Lancashire CC (one of our local CCs) has setup a scheme for the local schools to accept batteries for recycling - http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/environment/waste/battery.asp could you get your council to do similar perhaps? It'll get the kids recycling & may help the school somehow as well?
As for buying cheap rechargables, https://www.7dayshop.com has some, Lidl & Aldi sometimes have them in as well if theres one nearby?0 -
:j Hi Sarahe,
Unless you are getting rechargeables for science reasons rather than green why not get the kids some wind up torches ? (funds allowing !) The site below has a good selection and also some other types of equipment which can be wound up.
If for green reasons then you can further lby letting the kids know how these are used in poorer countries with no real access to electricty etc etc !!

Good luck,
