Yep - ask at the council, they'll probably be able to help out. Also keep an eye in the local free papers, Ive seen a few advertising in ours recentlly.
Might be worth checking youue energy supplier, they sometimes have special deals running. These ppl claim the grant on your behalf, maybee a local supplier could do similar? http://www.rockwarm.co.uk/grants.asp

I agree. We both work and own our house ( well we have a mortgage but you see what I mean) and we are getting cavity wall insulation partially funded by a grant. I think it's about 50% of the total price. So our 3 bed mid terrace (70-80's built) is costing us £150.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

Loft insulation is pretty easy to lay yourself (or get a pal to help/do it for you). I bought 12 rolls for £12 from B&Q and had it all down in a couple of hours. Make sure you wear hat, glasses (goggles), mask and gloves and take a shower afterwards as it's a bit scratchy. Oh, and don't put your foot through the ceiling.

You need a specialist for cavity wall insulation so the loft is the place to start.

B&Q are currently offering subsidised insulation for cavity walls and lofts at what seems to be very good prices. I believe that british gas are subsidising it.
