yep we had the same with our daughter about the same age (she's 12 now) she always has either tesco or boots own roll on(not basics) - usually unperfumed - does the trick - no aerosols(you will prob find she's not allowed aerosols when going to secondary school).
  • Theres one called Bionsen that is in a little glass or plastic spray bottle with 'crystals' in the bottom. You fill up this bottle with plain water and something in the crystals activates and makes it an antipersparant. The bottle can be refilled about 3 times i think. It is completely natural with no chemicals in and it can be used all over the body :)

  • I bought myself a Crystal Spring deodorant from eBay, direct from the manufacturer. It cost £4.49 (I don't think eBay links work here or I'd post it).

It looks like a stick deodorant, it contains no chemicals, you just wet the 'crystal' and rub it liberally on to your skin. It doesn't stop you sweating, so you may still feel a little damp from time to time, but you absolutely don't smell. I feel very confident using it, and when my daughter is old enough I'll get one for her too. They sell a travel size that's slightly cheaper and might be better for a child.

I believe there's a separate Crystal Spring thread somewhere, may be on the Old Style board, worth a look and I'd definitely recommend it.

    Hope this helps you.

my DD is 8 and needs deodorant. At first I tried her with Pitrok (the kind you have to wet before putting on) but she found it too fiddly.

Now she uses a Biosen roll-on. she likes it because it looks just like a "normal" roll on and I like it as there's no aluminium.

Boots sell them and it's not too expensive either.

  • I use the Pitrok one & it seems OK so far. Ive noticed they are available in Asda as well ( I think I had to hunt around some Boots stores before I found mine). There is an organic roll-on from miessence available through https://www.totallyorganics.co.uk (this is my wifes site so mods remove the link if Im not supposed to post - sorry). I do use it from time to time, but as I say on a daily basis I use the Pitrok.
  • My 9 yr old D is a complete soap dodger...but can anyone recommend a good soap?
  • I stand over my 8yo as she is well known for "forgetting" to wash.

Failing that we have threatened her with sheep dip :D

Not the cheapest, granted, but I really like Lush. They do a soap called Fresh Farmacy, which is intended as a facial soap, but it's great for sensitive/allergy prone skin (I think it's the calamine lotion they put in it). Take her with you, she might enjoy watching the staff slice the giant cheese-like wheels of soap!

yes we found getting DD to chose her own soap has helped (a bit) and Lush stuff is great! fortunately we don't live near a Lush shop or I'd be broke!

Is it me or are children needing to wash at an earlier age, by that I mean starting to get body odour? DD1 was about 6 when we first noticed it and it seemed terribly young to me. That's when I started to think seriously about deodorants, and I realised that if i didn't want her putting aluminium under her arms then really I shouldn't either.

It's hard at this age as she's not bothered about washing but starts to smell if she doesn't. I'm sure it won't be long before she's hogging the shower every morning!
