Making your own jotter pads (note books)

I recycle paper, into home made notebooks- well, for jotting messages down, notes, shopping lists, things to do, etc.

My method is saving all rubbish paper that has a blank side to it ie letters, leaflets from school etc which are normally A4 size. I then cut them to size, either in half or in quarters (which ever size will be most useful), punch a hole in the corner and use an elastic band (can usually find one on the street from postie) cut, to thread through and then tie up, to bind.

This then saves on buying notepads, and makes you greener. You can then recycle it all again through the local recycling collection!

We use them an awful lot and it really does save money too.

I got this idea from a friend's mother about 15 yrs ago, who used to cut the cardboard from cereal boxes, store them in an old icecream container (I think, or other box), and use them for messages, or shopping lists. Brilliant, I say!

(I'm hoping that this fits in here, else it is green saving? Perhaps someone has already mentioned this too. Apologies in advance!)

i save all boxes from cereal boxes to cocoa powder box and anything like washing up bottles , shampoo bottles etc and take them to my daugthers school. it amazing how much can be used for arts and crafts. all meats come in little plastic trays , yoghurts pot etc

  • I use the plastic bags from inside the cereal boxes for storing cakes. I also use them as freezer bags and sandwich bags - though I admit the sandwiches sometimes have a dusting of Oat Crunchies over them.

  • I make old envelopes into shopping list pads and children's drawing pads - ds2 loves this as he doesn't have to worry about how wasteful he's being per page

I also use old paper and make them into pads. I use a bull dog clip to hold it all together. It is ideal for shopping lists and for leaving notes for other family members etc.

Yes, I do the same. Then when the paper is written on both sides I then use it as scrap under my craft work (when I am stamping etc) before sending for recycling. Envelopes are used for shopping lists and the large ones for menu planning.
When OH's company was bought out they were given loads of headed stationery, which is still in the cupboard - I have yet to use it!
We get very little junk mail (I have registered to not receive any, which does work btw), but still seem to have plenty of envelopes and papers coming in!

I cut all the plain bits of card from birthday and christmas card to use for shopping lists, I find it better that bits of paper, you can easily make notes on the card when shopping. Craft wise make tags from the picture bits, glittery bits can be used for punching out shapes any left over can be recycled.
Envelopes. the ones that are patterned inside (usually blue) can be used for crafts. Cut into 2"squares for tea-bag folding, cut into strips for Iris folding, or just use as a backing paper on cards.

i sorted out the paper work draw. i do this every week and organise it into various files and i was amazed at the amount of paper i have cut up in readyness as a jotter book . bits of paper i would normally just throw away. just need to find an elastic band now.
  • It's great to see everyone doing something with their papers!

I also use shredded paper for the rabbits hutch, although I have been warned that magazines etc aren't very good for them , due to the amount of print on them.

    Any more ideas?

    Hi Luvly.cuppa.T,

As your thread has dropped off the front page of the Old Style board I've moved it over to the Green and Ethical board to see if you can get some more suggestions.
