Two electricity meters
Hi I wonder if anyone could advise. I have an outbuilding on my property that has its own electricity meter that has very low usage. In the past this was never a big deal but with the huge increase in daily standing change I'm looking at how to save some money. So two questions... Are there any no standing charge tariffs I…

Inflated estimated annual cost has now led to a inflated proposed direct debit.
Current monthly cost for both types of energy around £60-70 (actual readings) However I noticed a short time ago my most recent bill had a small note of estimated annual cost of £3800 just for electric, plus a little bit more for gas. Now I got an email suggesting I increase my monthly payment to £424, it states its based…

Hear me out. Is the price rise good for climate change?
Is the spike in gas, oil and electric good for the environment? Loads of people have cut their gas use, electricity use and maybe take less journeys in the car and it's because it's costing us all more. I have halved my energy use (and not because it's spring) I started in January. Plus there's more talk of more renewable…

Log burner investment?
What are we thinking? In light of the energy increases....do we reckon a log burner is a good investment? Will these be going up in price and worth investing now ti save on central heating or will this eventually just cost the same?

University student and energy costs
Hello, my son is in his second year of a 7 year course. He shared a house with 4 others for his first year. They used Unihomes to pay the rent and bills. Unihomes were supposed to never increase what was agreed, but with all of these companies they had something in their terms and conditions where they did. This time they…

I have all the numbers but I don't know what to do with them!
Would someone be kind enough to tell me what I need to do with these figures? I have pulled all my information together regarding my current tariff and the cheapest tariff offered by BG. I have no idea how to work it out - I apologise for asking! I am panicking about it all .... Thanks Jo

I didn't fix and I don't regret it - see my spreadsheet for proof
Hi all, There's a lot talk about fixing after the announcement that energy prices will go up in October by >40%. I've seen some saying that not fixing was a bad advice and I want to share my spreadsheet for 3,207kw/h of electricity and 23,040kw/h of gas usage a year. It's a comparison for 1 Apr 22 - 31 March 23 between…

Bulb charges
Hi, I'm a bulb customer , I'm currently in credit and they wany to increase my bills by 90%. I told them no way but the only option I had was to go on a tariff where once the bill is due I have to pay in full in 10 day. Has any one else had this? Any other ideas?

Energy bills after moving from parents' place to my newly purchased house
I am currently living with my parents but have recently mortgaged to purchase my own house. I'm not planning to move in yet as the house still needs some work (full rewiring and new furniture etc.). My question is, do I need to start paying for the bills and council tax already? If so would I be paying to the previous…

Bulb - credit question
Hello all, Just wanted some opinions please! Am with Bulb, whom I’m aware are in special administration. My meter readings are all up to date and regularly submitted so I’m confident managing my usage/account. My questions is - am trying to plan for next increase and winter usage, so my current direct debit covers my…

New DD a joke
I'm with Shell energy. I was paying £77pm for dual fuel. My new direct debit is £206pm, although I've managed to get this down to £190 a month. How come the increase is far more than the % that's being "advertised"?

Time to fix my energy bill? - British Gas Misleading customers?
Hello, I am an
avid user of mse / its information. I have just carried out a check to
see whether it is better for me to switch to a fixed tariff with my current
supplier. I was moved to British gas when PFP energy went bust. On my
British Gas account (via the app) they are offering the 'Exclusive Jul 23v1' tariff
at a…

Moving House - Eon Next won't transfer my fixed rate tariff
In August 2021 I fixed my energy tariff for 12 months with Eon Next. I am now moving house, and was under the impression the account could just be moved over to the new property, as I still have 4 months left on the contract. I spoke to Eon Next about this and they said the account can't be moved over and they will close…

Fixed Price v. Variable Tariff Energy
Are we still to expect a small drop in the Cap in April 23 (ML guesstimated 12% on 11 May)? Guess it won't happen in January! This assumption needs factoring into the Fixed Price v. Variable equation from now on. May start to push up the 25% guideline. Could be better to fix closer to October (obvious risk that deals may…

Worth changing to another supplier?
Hi, I am just coming off a fix with Eon Next onto their standard rate on June 12th. This will increase my payments monthly from £64.72 to £124.88. Martin mentioned that he thought that suppliers are increasing monthly payments for those coming off competitive fixes to their standard rate, effectively to penalise them for…

Confused at which rate to get
I am on the Eon Fix Again 1 Year v8 and historically my direct debit was £55. This is due to expire soon and they are offering the below as the 'best deals'. I don't know whether to select the variable or fixed - I am conscious of the October rise so clearly the variable will increase but I am also easily confused by the…
