New DD a joke

I'm with Shell energy. I was paying £77pm for dual fuel. My new direct debit is £206pm, although I've managed to get this down to £190 a month. How come the increase is far more than the % that's being "advertised"?

Hi there, the 54% they advertised price cap rise was just from Oct 2021 - Apr 2022 and specifically for an average user of 12000 kWh gas and 2900 kWh Elec.
In the real world most are coming off a very cheap rate fix and straight onto the latest cap so the rise is double or more.
What were you paying per kWh when paying £77 and what is your new price per kWh now and you annual usage in kWh?0 -
Were you previously on a fixed tariff which has now ended?
People on the SVT have seen prices rising steadily already, even before the increase in the energy cap, but people with cheap fixed tariffs ending are getting a huge shock at the reality of how much more expensive energy is now than when they started on their fixed tariff.

Have you checked what the DD amount should be to cover your actual usage?KellyBexley said:My new direct debit is £206pm, although I've managed to get this down to £190 a month.0 -
What is happening with some providers is that they are taking your winter readings, making them into what you might use over a full year, translating that into expected prices in the autumn. Then divide by 12 for your monthly usage payment. And then they are recalculating to ensure that you are paying excess to be at least 2 months in credit at all times.
Which is why some people are either going to paying for actual monthly usage or standing orders.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
