Big power off 10pm tonight
Have you heard about this doing the rounds on social media? Apparently it worked for Spain and they got a reduction in energy prices.

Will topping up now save money?
I got this letter about a 30% price increase from 1st May. Could anyone explain the highlighted paragraph to me? Does it mean if I top up to the max before April 21st, I’ll get that electricity at the cheaper rate?

Bulb - worse than ever!
More of a rant, so apologies in advance. I inherited Bulb as my energy supplier when I moved house in October. They have been awful from the outset, and I am trapped with them as they went into administration before the 3 week window was up and the advice at the time was to not worry and stay put for the time being. Fast…

direct debits - interest free loans to our energy suppliers?
Apologies if this has been asked before. for the past few years, I've been paying around £100 per month and on average twice a year I am given a £150 refund... similarly my mum.. when she signed up for her supplier, they suggested £100 a month but charged her around £150 a month, and roughly twice a year she gets >…

Boiler Low & Rads High
Hi Is it better to have the boiler set high and the radiators (via TRV) set to low or the opposite (boiler low/TRV high)? I generally have my boiler set to 55-60 and the radiators on 5, which keeps the rooms warm but does mean the boiler is running longer while the rooms slowly come up to heat. Would it be better to have…

Smart sockets & renewable
The beeb has a story on smart sockets which, apparently, can determine when one is using 'green' energy rather than, well, not 'green' from the National Grid. How do they do this?

Renewable Energy Prices compared to Oil & Gas
Hi, so i've been thinking (which can be dangerous in itself) Last week there was a graph on the BBC news that showed a third of our energy supplies come from renewable sources. The energy cap raised by 52% to reflect the increase of Oil and Gas prices. Why is this not offset with the amount of renewable energies being…

EDF "Welcome Variable" tariff
Hi all, I was recently switched to EDF. The tariff I have been on is "Welcome Variable". Is that their best one? Should I be concerned that its variable? I've got a 4 bed house. Been paying £178 per month up till now. But my estimated future usage suggests I should be paying about £260*... Gave my meter readings on 31…

Thermostat Settings
I have a Baxi combi boiler, with an old school thermostat in my hall along with a radiator a little further down. I keep all the doors that lead into the hall closed, and set my thermostat to around 20C of a winter's evening. Am I right in presuming that the thermostat switches off when it reaches 20C based on the radiator…

Energy trials question, help me find it?
During the start of the warnings about price hikes re energy, a few news articles mentioned some energy companies trialing a system of using energy at specific times etc and this would either cost less or even give the customer money back ( honestly im not imagining this😁) , does anyone remember what this was called, who…

Turning a router (BT Smart Hub 2) off or not?
Ok so with the price of everything going up I'm looking to see where we can save some money & just seeing what's worthwhile or not. Leaving the microwave on just to display the clock is one. Not sure what it uses. Read about routers this week & was surprised at some of the figures being thrown around for various routers.…

Emersion heater or Gas
When it's warm enough to turn the gas central heating off I thought it might be cheaper to use the emersion heater for hot water rather than the gas system in light of the price of gas now..any advise welcome.

British Gas, Energy Savings Trust rant
I've been quietly and efficiently trying to fix my energy situation after I made a huge error not switching provider in October and found myself at the mercy of British Gas. Not being one to panic I started meter readings, as british gas told me they couldn't install a gas meter only electricity, and made a call to the…

Meter mix up - anyone had any experience?
Hi everyone. New here, just asking for some advice. Moved in to a new build property a few years ago. Had no problems up until now. It’s become apparent that my gas and electricity meters and my neighbours next door have been registered to our addresses the wrong way round. Only discovered this after the neighbours next…

The EO Process
Having submitted a complaint to EOS, the process has been massively improved. The Interim Decision showed that care had been taken by the investigating officer in reviewing all the evidence. For its part, the supplier challenged one part of the Interim Decision: as is itsright. However, the supplier offered no new evidence…

Former Avro now Octopus - Been moved to E7 tariff
My parents were previously with Avro. They have an old E7 meter which gives a Day, Night and Total reading. They haven't been on an E7 tariff in years and weren't on one with Avro. Though they did have to give Day and Night readings. Since Avro went bust they were switched to Octopus. They just this week got their first…
