Worth getting a generator? And what kind?
With rising fuel prices the gas & electric bills are starting to really worry me. I don’t have the roof space or really the belief that solar works well enough to make it worth the investment (happy to be proven wrong though). And also with war in Ukraine and energy supply seemingly at risk in future, I was wondering if a…

Direct Debits are over collecting
I’ve just received notification of my new tariff from Octopus and of a resulting change to my direct debit. The minimum payment however has gone up more than the tariff change and seems to be set by Octopus energy at a value such that I will still be in credit in March 2023 and this cannot be reduced. I therefore seem to…

I've rented my house for…

Ovo - sending message from account
Ovo acquired SSE and so I'm a fairly new Ovo customer. I want to submit a 31 March reading and there are no instructions that I can see on the website. All I could do would be to submit today's reading. There is a messaging feature but this seems to be disabled. Any advice on how to report the 31 March reading? Thanks.

British Gas and their weird unfathomable bill
BG emailed a demand to us yesterday for £200+. As it had no details on it I asked for a proper copy which arrived by email today. We were transferred to them last November with a credit of £120+ and have paid their bill requests on time since. The new bill shows all previous payments since November and a list of readings…

Octopus are offering me a smart meter. It would be located in my kids play room in a boxed off cupboard. (old garage conversion many years back) for electricity one. Confused, please help. Standing charge
If I have a meter that monitors kWh I use in daytime and nighttime separately, and both my daytime and nighttime prices have increased by 54%, why has my standing charge doubled? I thought that the point of the 54% cap was to limit bill increases to a maximum of 54%. Am I wrong about that?

EDF Statements Cancellations and online
I received an email on Saturday telling me, my new bill was ready to view. On clicking the link, the website told me there was no bill to view. It also showed me that all my bills (6th January, 4th February and 5th March) had all been cancelled and I was in credit by £669.66. The same screen told me that I had to pay…

Local Energy Clubs, any opinions?
We have a local energy club near us, we are electric only and their standing charge is cheaper the BG by around half. Units rates at the peak (i.e local energy source can't fulfil demand) are at the cap price. There is a £3 a year fee. It says you require a smart meter but we don't have one at this time and think they just…

Heat the human, not the home
I bought a skipping rope for about £2. I’m working at home and sit for long periods, so do get very cold. So, when I take a break I get out the rope, turn on the radio and have a gentle skip for the length of a pop song. Gets my blood flowing and my heart & lungs working, plus I’ve had a break from the computer and even my…

Ripple
Ok, just been to the Ripple website, watched the video and read the blurb but still don't really understand it. Is this a company that you switch to or just and investment opportunity that will offset your fuel bill?
