EDF "Welcome Variable" tariff
Hi all,
I was recently switched to EDF. The tariff I have been on is "Welcome Variable".
Is that their best one? Should I be concerned that its variable?
I've got a 4 bed house. Been paying £178 per month up till now. But my estimated future usage suggests I should be paying about £260*... Gave my meter readings on 31 March. Latest bill says I'm £678 in credit.
*I hope my future usage is actually less because I've made two important changes: Firstly I have fitted eco-shower heads which reduce hot water consumption. Secondly I was heating water in my water tank for 8 hours per day and I now heat it for 2 hours per day (I don't know why I set it to 8 per day, but that's what it was on).

Your prices are probably the same as the Deemed tariff, which is about as good as it gets right now.1

Even if you had the hot water "on" for 8 hours, it wouldn't have been drawing power all the time as once it had reached the required thermostat setting, the coil would have stopped consuming leccy UNLESS you haven't got the tank insulated (or you were using a lot of hot water !!)Type_45 said:

@Type_45 , I put my immersion on for 1 hour on econ7, 7-30am to 8-30am and theres enough hot water to last all day.2

Definitely on the cheapest tariff, EDF’s fixed options are ridiculously high. Depending on when your annual review is, you should be ok keeping your payments as they are for a while due to your credit. Did you have a credit carried over from your defunct supplier?1

This will make a negligible difference unless you had a very old, poorly insulated hot water tank that was hemorrhaging heat, although you may now run out of hot water.Type_45 said:Secondly I was heating water in my water tank for 8 hours per day and I now heat it for 2 hours per day (I don't know why I set it to 8 per day, but that's what it was on).

Yes, I guess I did have credit carried over from my old supplier as I've only been with EDF for a few months.0 -
Have you worked out your yearly usage on the new rates from 1st April?
If you know your kWh usage each yeah for each fuel then you can challenge the DD if it's set too high.1
